Q:

OK. My daughter is actually the one with type 1 diabetes. She was diagnosed at 3 and is now 8. Two weeks ago, we experienced a seizure in the middle of the night. She did not change insulin doses, had been on the same regiment for about a year, but for what ever reason, she was suspected to have gone low in her sleep. Since then, we are having alot of trouble controlling her sugars and she can no longer tell when she is going low many times/day. Is this normal? Any ideas about what is going on?

We have backed off on her lantus by a whole unit and she is high in the morning and we have backed off on her humalog by 3 units at home. But we still continue to have about 2 lows a day. I am worried that their might be something else going on with her. Right now, her doctor just wants me to monitor her throughout the night a few times to determine if she is going low and then coming up. It just seems odd that we would have to back off on insulin at this point in the first place. What is going on? Any ideas or possible things that could be happening?
