It sounds like you’re taking all the right steps to manage your blood glucose. Despite taking your medicine as directed, watching your carb intake and exercising, you’re noticing that your blood glucose two hours after eating is running 180-200 mg/dl (the goal for most people is less than 180 mg/dl 2 hours after a meal). While you didn’t mention your A1C level, what this may mean is that you need more diabetes medicine and/or a different type of medicine. Many people don’t realize that type 2 diabetes changes over time as the pancreas makes less and less insulin. This is the natural course of diabetes. It doesn’t mean that what you’re doing isn’t important or isn’t working; it just means that you need additional help (likely in the form of medicine) to help keep your blood glucose levels in target. My suggestion is to talk with your healthcare provider about your diabetes treatment plan and your blood glucose numbers. Discuss a game plan for bringing your numbers to within your target.
