I need a way to exercise. I am dieting but I'm not getting very far because I can't walk. I can walk a little, but I am in pain. I fell and broke some ribs and my tailbone, which the ribs are well, but I have a hard time walking left leg and hip hurt. Is there something I can do to exercise besides walking?

I’m glad you still feel encouraged to exercise! First, I’d recommend that you ask your doctor for a referral to a physical therapist. He or she can provide you with appropriate exercises that strengthen your leg and hip while minimizing pain. Also, a physical therapist can suggest alternative types of exercise to try besides walking. In the meantime, though, you might consider looking into water exercise classes at a nearby community center or YMCA (that has a pool!). Water is much gentler on your joints. Another option is to look into armchair exercise videos. With these, you sit in a chair and do mostly upper body work. You can find videos online or purchase DVDs.
