When I have a high blood sugar reading before a meal should I eat anyways or walk away though I know regular eating is important?
In general, we do not encourage skipping meals to correct high blood glucose . It is better to try and figure out what caused the high blood glucose and how you might prevent it in the future. A high is considered anything over 140 before a meal and can be caused by eating too many carbohydrates at the previous meal, over snacking, not having enough anti-diabetes medicine or from illness. One high is not harmful, but patterns of highs day after day, week after week, year after year, can cause damage. It is much more important to understand the patterns of your high blood glucose levels and address the overall cause, than to “fix” each high by skipping meals, walking or taking extra medicine.
