How do I tactfully remind my PCP that I am a T1 and I should be treated as such? He never seems to remember and I wonder if he even reviews his notes. For the upcoming visit he has only ordered a FBS and an A1C. I am T1 and a senior (dx at 60 as a t1 right from the start).

It can be difficult and awkward to question a physician, particularly if you have known him a long time. There is nothing wrong with asking questions. It shows that you are interested and involved in your own health. The best policy is to be honest. Let your doctor know that you noticed that only an A1C and a blood glucose test were ordered and you weren’t sure, since you have type 1 diabetes, whether the additional tests are needed. The blood work ordered for type 1 and type 2 diabetes is very similar. The only difference with type 1 diabetes is that the A1C is routinely checked more often (every 3 months instead of every 6 months).
