Every day in the morning my reading has been in the low 70s. I take 30 units of lantus in the morning then I take Metformin 500 mg before I eat each meal. Should I ask my doctor to see if I need to lower my shot ?
Waking up in the 70s is a little on the low side. It would be reasonable to ask your doctor whether a small decrease in your Lantus dose might be needed. Before you do this, you may want to do a few days of blood glucose readings, each morning and both before and 2 to 3 hours after dinner . Write down the numbers and take them to your doctor. By looking at more numbers, you and your doctor can gain a better understanding of when your blood glucose is low, which will allow better adjustment of your current medications.
