My sister who is 54 is now on insulin and has gained about 35 pounds. She is very upset as she has never had a weight problem until now. She read somewhere that if you take double the insulin prescribed for your numbers you'll lose weight (i.e. reading of 150, normally take 6 units insulin, double it to 12 units). I'm terrified this will cause deadly side effects, but she won't listen to me. Can you please tell me what this will do to her, and if it would even actually help her lose weight?
