Is getting my A1C down by March 5th 2013 possible? I currently weigh 340 lbs. I am beginning to walk .5-.9 miles 3-4 times a week. I have type 2 diabetes and am treating with Welchol. I need to bring my A1C down to passing level for my DOT physical. I have cut out all sugars, drink low-fat products as much as possible and drink no soda.
Your A1C measures the average of your blood glucose levels over a 2-month period. If you just started exercising and making dietary changes in February, then the March 5th A1C may not reflect all these changes. That’s because the A1C drawn on March 5th not only shows a history of February blood glucose numbers, but January numbers as well. Whether you will be able to get your A1C down to where it needs to be by March 5thwill largely depend on how high the A1C was when you started to make your changes. Some change can occur in 1 month, but it will be hard to know whether it will be enough for the DOT physical.
