Q:

What is the best time of the day to take my medication. I'm on metfomin 500mg ER twice a day. I'm currently taking one in the morning after breakfast and one at night before dinner. My morning reading is between 114-120.

A:

The times you are taking your metformin are the usual times, and the morning readings are within target, so there is probably not a need to change your routine at this time. If for some reason you are having a hard time remembering the medicine twice a day or find it inconvenient, you could talk to your doctor about possibly taking it just once a day. It is an extended release formula and technically need only be taken once daily, but often times it is dosed twice a day.
