my fasting glucose last month was 152. I have never been told I have diabetes but that it is high. Should I be testing my sugar daily and following a diabetic diet?

Dr. David Erani

A fasting blood glucose level test is one of the tests that is used to diagnose diabetes. A result higher than 125 mg/dl confirmed by repeat testing meets the criteria for the diagnosis of diabetes. Once the diagnosis is established, it is important to know your A1C level, because it correlates with the risk of complications. No matter what, it is important for everyone to eat in a healthy way and to get regular physical activity. Also, while it is important for people with diabetes to control their blood glucose levels, it is at least as important to control blood pressure and cholesterol. If you are newly diagnosed with diabetes, the most important thing for you to know is that you can live a long, healthy life if you take good care of yourself.
