I have type 2 diabetes. Today my morning glucose level was 84, evening 97, with a normal around 115. I use Levemir 60 units every evening. Should I take my shot on days like today?

Dr. David Erani

The blood glucose levels you report are normal. If they are consistently in that range, that is good. You wouldn’t want them to be much lower than that. If you are having low blood glucose levels – low readings or symptoms of hypoglycemia, you may need a lower dose of insulin. This also depends on your A1C levels and your blood glucose levels before and after meals. If you don’t take your insulin after a day of good blood glucose levels, the levels are likely to be high the following day. As long as you are not having hypoglycemia, I would continue the insulin and review your A1C and blood glucose levels with your healthcare team.
