Q:

Could I be anemic? I am a 40-year-old, type two diabetic, diagnosed seven years ago. My numbers are on an even keel right now, I have lost weight, and up until about a week ago, was walking a mile a day. I began having spells of lightheadedness, and am now leary to go for my walks. I am also unusually fatigued and sleeping a lot. My headaches have increased and work is difficult. I am struggling just to get through the day. I am in bed sometimes before seven.

A:

Your symptoms could be explained by anemia, but they could be explained by several other conditions as well. It is not clear what is wrong, but it is clear that something is wrong. While I could provide you with a list of conditions you might have based on the symptoms you describe, that wouldn’t be helpful. You need to contact your healthcare provider so that he or she can get a detailed history, examine you, and order any tests that may be needed to determine the cause of your symptoms.
