What do you think of eating the Nutrisystem way? I ordered the food and now I am concerned by its high carb content.

NutriSystem is a very popular and respected commercial weight loss program that consists of packaged, portion-control meals and snacks that are delivered to your door. You do need to supplement the meals with your own food that you purchase at the grocery store. In addition to their convenience, the meals are low in saturated and trans fat, as well as sodium. They also fall low on the glycemic index scale, which is a ranking of how carbohydrate foods affect blood glucose. NutriSystem offers a track for people with diabetes, called NutriSystem D. This plan provides 1200 calories per day for women, and 1500 calories per day for men. The nutrient distribution is about 55% of calories from carbohydrate, 25% from protein and 20% from fat. While the carbohydrate percentage may seem a little high to you, keep in mind that the meals generally have a low glycemic index, and also contain whole grains and soluble fiber, all of which can help slow the rise in blood glucose after a meal. In a study published in the journal Postgraduate Medicine in 2009 which looked at 69 overweight people with type 2 diabetes, those who were given NutriSystem meals to eat lost an average of 24 pounds at 6 months, compared to the control group who only lost 13 pounds. The NutriSystem group also had lower A1Cs and fasting blood glucose levels compared to the control group. Overall, NutriSystem can be a helpful approach to aid with weight loss and improving diabetes control, as well. Besides NutriSystem, other commercial programs, such as Weight Watchers and Jenny Craig, can be beneficial, too, in terms of helping you lose weight and keep it off.
