Do you have any idea what might be causing numbness and burning in my toes and what I can do about it? I have type 2 and I have been to my doctor a few times about the pain. It seems he has no idea what is causing it. He gave me medication for it but it doesn't work very well. At night it gets worse and I can not stand to have my feet touch the covers.

Numbness and burning can be a sign of nerve damage from diabetes, but it can also be caused by a lot of other conditions. Talk to your doctor about whether he thinks the symptoms are from your diabetes. If not, ask what else he thinks might be causing it. Ask what other tests can be done to determine the cause. Also, let him know that the medicine is not working; it may be the wrong medicine or the dose may be too low. Finally, ask if it would make sense for you to see a neurologist, a specialist in nerve conditions.
