When you are first diagnosed with diabetes, it’s a life changing event and can be overwhelming. Feeling overwhelmed is normal. One of the best ways to feel better is to learn as much as you can about how to take care of the disease; going to websites like this, talking with others who have diabetes and asking questions are all good ways to do this. I would also recommend that you attend a class on diabetes. Diabetes education classes are held in most communities. Ask your primary care provider what’s available in your area. Many hospitals have programs, and most communities have nutritionists or nurses who specialize in diabetes education. What’s most important for you to know is that people are living longer and healthier lives with diabetes than ever before. You can live a normal life with diabetes and learning as much as you can about it, will help you to do this.
