Let’s face it, diabetes can be hard. There are good days and bad days, emotions are up and down and if left to our own devices diabetes control can be up and down too. There are so many aspects of our lives to consider when it comes to managing this challenging disease. It is nearly impossible to tackle it alone. In order to conquer great diabetes control we need to surround ourselves with a team we trust to help us get there.
Jeff Stormer from the Centre Daily Times does a great job of identifying some of the key players to include on your team. To see the complete line up you can read the entire article here. Jeff goes beyond the typical medical professionals that come to mind when managing diabetes including mental and behavioral health professionals to help cope with stress and the emotional side of diabetes. But the most interesting player I found was a pharmacist.
When working with a variety of doctors different medications may be prescribed, and those medications don’t always work well together. But unless we have spent hours researching all of the medications we as patients wouldn’t know that. And the doctors prescribing the medications don’t always check our entire file to see what other medications we are taking unfortunately. So to save yourself a lot of time and headache and possible negative side effects add your local pharmacist to your diabetes management team. They will be able to help you identify any trouble areas with your medications.
We have to remember that we are the star of our team. It is up to us as individuals to make things happen. After all we are the ones staring this disease back in the face every day. It does make it easier to have a few key players to build us up and help to make us stronger so that we can face diabetes with confidence. Now is the time to decide who you want beside you on your team.
