Attempting to control your type 2 diabetes can be difficult and frustrating; sometimes you just don’t know what to do next. Wouldn’t it be nice to have informed suggestions at your fingertips? Well, there's an app for that!
WellDoc, a Baltimore-based company, has developed a new application called BlueStar that is specifically designed to assist people with type 2 diabetes.
This application is available by prescription, which in itself makes it a bit different from other digital applications. Once you enter your blood glucose readings, amount of exercise, medications and food plan, the program will give you back results along with suggestions on how to proceed based upon your doctor’s recommendations. It even gives you a pep talk! To me, this app is an improvement over the company’s previous diabetes application, especially in the area of interaction with your healthcare team.
The application works on smartphones, tablets or desktops, so you can find a platform that fits your individual needs and technology. It is approved for insurance reimbursement, just like any other prescription.
Pro: With a little work on your part, you can get support for dealing with your diabetes wherever you might be.
Cons: It relies on you to enter your data and it isn’t widely available until next year.
But if you’re into gadgets you might want to give it a try.
