When it comes to your diabetes care, it's important to keep both your blood sugar and weight in a proper balance. Fast food restaurants (generally) won't help you do either.

But, if you find yourself without many dining options, it's good to know what diabetic-friendly choices are offered by these chains. Check out these eight fast food meals that are some of the best offerings on the menus.

1. Kentucky Fried Chicken

Don't be tempted by the fried poultry at this home-style chain. Instead, opt for the Kentucky Grilled Chicken Breast (220 calories, 40 grams of protein) and choose either green beans (25 calories, 4 grams of carbs) or a house salad (15 calories, 3 grams of carbs) as a side dish.

2. Subway

This sandwich shop's customizable options are great because you can choose what will meet your personal dietary goals. Keep carbs to a minimum and steer yourself toward one of their salad options. Try their Roast Beef Salad (140 calories, 11 grams of carbs, 19 grams of protein).

3. Taco Bell

Ordering your food "fresco style" from this Mexican chain will replace heavy sauces and excess cheese with tomatoes, cilantro, and onions. There are several good options here, but our favorite is the Fresco Shredded Chicken Soft Taco (140 calories, 15 grams of carbs, 10 grams of protein).

4. Panda Express

This Asian-inspired chain has a few healthy choices among the rows of greasy noodles. One 5.4 ounce serving of broccoli beef (150 calories, 13 grams of carbs, 9 grams of protein) without rice and one veggie spring roll (95 calories, 13.5 grams of carbs) can satisfy your hunger and keep your carb counts in line.

5. McDonald's

While McDonald's is known for its burgers, you're better off choosing chicken at this fast-food joint. Order the Premium Grilled Chicken Classic Sandwich without mayonnaise (300 calories, 41 grams of carbs, 27 grams of protein). The Filet-o-Fish (minus the tartar sauce) is another acceptable option (300 calories, 38 grams of carbs, 15 grams of protein)…but stay away from the fries.

6. Wendy's

Take advantage of the salad menu and ignore the cheeseburgers when dining at this chain. Try a half portion of the Apple Pecan Chicken Salad, which comes with pecans and a pomegranate vinaigrette. It clocks in at a reasonable 350 calories, with 30 grams of carbs and 20 grams of protein.

7. Popeyes

Don't make eating out at this chain a regular habit—most of the options are too carb- and fat-heavy to support a healthy diet. In a pinch, however, choose the six-piece chicken tenders (230 calories, 14 grams of carbs, 11 grams of protein) with applesauce and green beans as your sides.

8. Burger King

If the location offers veggie burgers, opt for one without mayonnaise (310 calories, 42 grams of carbs, and 22 grams of protein). If that isn't an option, choose the TenderGrill Chicken Sandwich without mayo (350 calories, 40 grams of carbs, and 26 grams of protein). For a healthy side, grab a garden salad with Ranch dressing (240 calories and six grams of carbs).
