This Twitter chat was hosted by Jewels Doskicz (@She_Sugar) with special guest Christel Marchand Aprigliano (@ThePerfectDBlog). The topic for our night was diabetes advocacy, and there was much to learn.
This live event allowed us to interact in a fast-paced conversation that included thoughtful advice, great diabetes humor, and learning for everyone involved.
We started off with a simple question, asking "What does diabetes advocacy mean to you?"
The answers to question 1 were as diverse as the great group that came to participate.
Next we moved onto a question about what aspects of diabetes care drive you crazy.

Next we touched on why advocacy is important and what inspires you to do it.
Then we asked a follow up question:
The next topic for discussion was about the aspirations of the advocates who had joined us. We asked, "What is the one thing you aspire to do?"
Challenges and Gifts of Being an Advocate
Our follow-up question asked advocates to consider the challenges and gifts of being an advocate.
Finally, we thought it would be insightful to ask our participants to reflect back on their diagnosis and imagine what an advocate could have shared with them to have made a difference in their diabetes and life.
Of course, whenever you're considering advocacy, you need to also consider your privacy—especially when it comes to your online privacy. So we asked about finding the balance.
Thanks to everyone who participated! #DCDE Twitter chats happen every Tuesday night at 9:00 ET. You can join in or follow along using the hashtag #DCDE.
