I'm a 37 year old t2 on insullin 5 times a day. I have had a kideny transplant 11 years ago and i didn't have diabities then but most of all my dialysis buddies did and i always wondered why i was so different. I became t2 about a year and a half ago due to all the medications to keep me alive and going. I have looked all over the internet for a kidney cite like this one and there isn't one. I want to know how many people who have kidney problems due to their diabities and how many who would actually visit a cite if we had one. I am looking into learning about how to go about setting up a web cite for that. Please give me you opinions please!!

Thanks, Glee for the suggestion. We're always evaluating what sites we should launch next. We are certainly considering Kidney Connect.

Stay tuned :-)

I find that even hospitals and clinics have support groups for everything but kidney diasease and patients that have had dialysis or transplant or any of the mentioned problems. Im very passionate about this matter and woiuld love to see something happen with this matter or atleast have it out in the open so people have a place to go for support or just to learn about what is happening to their body and how it affects them and their loved ones lives in so many ways. Thank you for reading my discussion and i appreciate that you also think it is a good idea.

I concur with jayabee52 & dietcherry, build it. My taking metformin pills over a period of years caused me to have serious kidney damage. Terrible pains & cramps in my kidney areas. Endo Doc told me it was caused not by me diabetes but the metformin, a marker protein of .8 was a sign to stop the drug, but mine was 1.4. The Endo Doc took me off the oral insulin & metformin and on to insulin. In a couple weeks the pain in my sides stopped and in six months my kidneys were better.

I do have CKD. I was diabetic ("DM") first and got a kidney infection. (I just recently learned that Metformin can cause kidney damage) The kidney infection gave me ESRD and I was on dialysis for life, (I thought at that time). But the infection resolved and I no longer had to take Dialysis.

Yes it would be good to have a site devoted to Kidney disease, IMO. In fact I may email John Crowley this discussion link and see if something like that is in the works.

Hi! No I don't have kidney problems yet. I also take insulin . I take it in the morning with a long lasting 24 hour shot and I take a different insulin to cover my meals. I think its a wonderful idea to set up a site for people with kidney problems! I'm sure many people would be very greatful if you did! If I do develop kidney problem I surely would love to have a site that I could go to and discuss with others our issues! It makes such a BIG difference to get support from others who are going through the same issues! When I first got diagnosed with diabetes I found this site and I'm truely greatful to God I did. This site helped me work through my fears and worries. I'm positive if you create a site for people with kidney problems many people will also be greatful! You will be amazed on how many lives you can touch through your website! I say GO FOR IT! You can help thousands of people going through the same problems! I think its a wonderful idea ! Please keep us posted on how your doing and how the site is comming along! I'll be looking foward to hear how its going! :) best wishes and God bless!

I just found out that I have stage 3 kidney disease. I would love to talk with others with the same problems. It really does help.

I also have stage 3 kidney disease caused by metformin and chemo I dont know whats next it can be very scary and when the doctor tells you theres nothing they can do to help you except if it gets worse put you on dialysis thats not what I wanted to here.
