I have been a Type ll diabetic male having to take insulin and oral meds for the last 22 years. I was part of the national ACCORD Diabetes progarm for 8 years at University Hospital in Cleveland, Ohio. I control my diabetes with a low carb diet and exercise, and yes medication. I was 265 lbs. [ 5'11" ] I now weigh 218# and average 6.5 to 6.8. I still have problems with my Triglyceridecount.
I presently eat alow carb salad on Monday, Wedsday and Friday and maintain a carb count for the day at about 45. I maintain a carb count of about 65 per day the rest of the week. Like I say, I'm in controle of my diabetes, but need Ideas on getting my Tri number down from about the 300 range.

I have high Triglycerides at the moment because I can't afford the extra med. But in the past I took Zcor with Tricor and it dropped my count down to 112. I then switched to Trilipix for a year and had their program of $5 meds and it dropped to 94. After the 1 year program stopped & my #s rose to 134. The med now has a new program of $25, put to expensive at the moment for me to add.

Thank you Armourer, I take Tricor, but still run above 200. My doctor says it may be hereditary. I haven't heard of Tripix, but I will ask my doctor about it. I to am under a stain with all the meds I must take for various ailments. I wonder sometimes if its worth the cost and aggrevation involved with trying to stay within the numbers.

My nutritionist advised me to eat more lean meats like turkey, eat only white meat, cook with good oils like olive oil, canola oil, stay away from butter and fried foods. Exercise also helps the Tri number. Hope this helps

Thank you WendyFR. Cooked a turky this weekend, I had some in a salad yesterday and going to try making a turkey vegetable soup tomorrow. I replaced fried with baked. Corn flakes are great on chicken and fish backed instead of the fried versions. Thanks again.

Hi. Condrgats on getting your diabetes under control! I also use insulin and I'm happy to say I'm finally under control now also. I'm not really sure about the Tri number but I try to eat low fats and its really helped my Tri number. Fish and lean meat has helped me greatly. Soups and salads are great! The leaner you can eat the better! Really watch the fats in your food and I think you will be suprised at the results! I wish you the best and God bless

Thanks, I like the idea of adding more soup to my diet. I've never really got into eating fish much, but with the Lent season here it will give me a chance to try more fish recipe's . Thanks again.
