My name is Larry, a veteran of the Army. 2 Years ago I learned that I have diabeties. I would like to get a dog chain with my medication, allergies, and being a diabetic. Everywhere I go they are expensive and the VA don't give them out. How do I order one without cost?

If you have one in your area, you can go to the army/navy surplus store and pick up one. I don't think their that expensive. If you still have your dog tags, put it on that and wear it. Medical Personnel will IMMEDIATELY look at them, ESPECIALLY if they see the red tag. Because of a few incident I had where my BS was too low and I couldn't communicate, I had my dog tags and allergy tag tattooed on my left arm, where I had already had that I was an "Insulin Addict". Every single nurse and doctor thought both set of tattoos were a good idea and had noticed them upon walking into the room. They did agree with me that most people wouldn't do something like that. They also said it made their job a little bit easier. LOL.

Hi. You can get a free chain that states your a diabetic from the diabetics reasearch and wellness foundation. It only costs 4.00 for shipping. Its close to a dog tag. I got one myself from them. On the tag it says I have diabetes please check my blood before treating me. If you want your medications listed unfortunatly you will have to go else where and pay the price. But this is a nice chain and tag and its very cheap!go to there web site and check it out! I love mine! Good luck. And God bless

I purchased my dog tags on ebay. I believe they were 7.95 and took about 14 days to get. The ones I chose are black and you can get up to 7 lines lazer etched
onto the back. the front has the medic alert symbol with Diabetes in big bold letters. I will try to post a pic of it later in my profile. If I can find the address for them or even an email address I will post it.

I have not seen one that is free. I have seen some that you can get just diabetic on it that run about $5 at the pharmacy or durable goods shops. Most of them charge more for everything you want to add to it, so maybe get a generic one and carry a list of meds and other info in your wallet. That is what I do.

Dear Greenberet, before I go any further I thank you for your service to the USA and its citizens to keep us free. THANK YOU (I have 3 sons, all are involved with the military in some way.)

Unfortunately, if you are looking for something "without cost" you may be looking for a while. I have been looking for something like that too but have as yet to find something fitting those parameters. Granted I have not exhausted myself in that search, but to date I haven't found anything yet.

I will continue to look. And I will come back to this discussion and let you know if I find something.

If you find something that fits your parameters, please come back to this discussion and share with us what you've found

Thank you

Have you tried looking at Ebay, I know of at least one seller who sells tags that look just like military dog tags for really cheap, I want to say three or four dollars. I bought myself a more fancy sterling silver one off of eBay for $8.
