Been off here for a while, sorry. Lots going on. I had a sleep study done last week and have determined that cpap machines are not good for people who are claustrophobic! lol I did manage to keep a full mask on for about 3 hours. I heard there is something out there called nasal pillows or something. Is anyone on here familiar with them?

My BS has been doing better since I started taking Janumet. Still wake up around 130, but that sure beats the 250 + I had been dealing with. I still have problems with my left heel. Hurts like a booger. Don't know what I'm going to do about that.

My husband had a stroke last month. A minor one, THANK GOD! and they expect a full recovery. We just found out yesterday that his sister's cancer has spread to her brain. Not good news. I'm still in school part time and it's going well, and of course, still working full time. Since Jimmy's stroke we have given up on trying to get the band back together. it's just not a big priority right now.

So that's where I've been for the past few months! Glad to be backl!

Jimmy's sister is showing a little improvement. The radiation is reducing the tumors in her brain so she's a little more aware and trying to talk more. She has a long road to haul there.

Had my foot x-rayed, and I do have planter faciitis (sp) and bone spurs. ugh. anti inflammatory prescribed. Doc doesn't suggest surgery at this point, said to keep my blood sugar down and lose weight and it wouldn't bother me as bad. Yeah, ok…piece of cake!..unsweetened cake, that is! lol anyway me and my husband are going to start Atkins on Monday. gotta get a big chunk off quick and then get it regulated. Wish us luck!!

Uuugh..I was diognosed with sleep apnea in 2005…could not stand the headgear! The way it corrected my apnea was that I then didn't sleep..so I kept breathing! LOL! Not quite the correction intended with the C-pap, or bi-pap, that they tried with me. But that is me, you should look for a solution that works for you…it is nothing to ignore…results could be deadly.
You sure are going down a rough path right now. What is the cause of the heel pain? Is it plantar fasciitis? Glad your husband is recovering quickly. Sorry you sister-in-law's prognosis was so dire. You and your family are in my prayers.

I love this site! Everyone is sooo great! I told my doc and my diabetes educator about DC so maybe they will pass the word around!

My sister-in-law has stopped eating and mom says she just has this vacant look in her eyes. The cancer is all thru her brain and the treatment is very aggressive. We all know it's just a matter of time. Your prayers are more than welcome!

It really is nice to have a place to come chat. I love all of you!

HI … welcome back! I also have sleep apnea and a CPAP that I just can't seem to get used to. I started with the nasal pillows but they don't do much for a mouth breather like myself. I then went to a full face mask and that was a disaster because the technician said the masks are made for heavier people. Wow… does that make me thin??? I tried a combo pillow and mouth guard thingie mask and now it feels like I have a vacuum cleaner attached to my face. No matter what I am trying I can't sleep with the darn thing. They say it takes time getting used to it so don't give up. Sleep apnea can have serious complications to the heart and other organs. I know of people who can't sleep without their masks/machines now but I am not one of them. Sorry to hear about your sister and hubby's condition(s). Hang in there, kiddo. You are among friends here … friends who truly care about you and who can relate to what you have, are and will be going through.

Glad to have you back.
I'm so sorry to here of all the troubles you and your family are still facing.
I will include you in my prayers.
As for the CPAP machine I was not comfortable with the face mask either.
There is a type that has the canulas you place in your nose. Some doctors feel this type does not work as well. Speak to your doctor about this option, and whether he or she feels it will work for you.
Also great improvement on the blood sugars. I hope they get even better in the future.
May God Bless You and Your Family

Welcome back, I was wondering about you! Sorry to hear about your husband's stroke, but glad you are expecting a full recovery. Seem like life tends to pile up a lot of things at once to deal with. Glad you are back online.

Glad you're back, Nancy! From the sound of it, you've been busy!

Yep 130 in the AMs is much better than 250+, to be sure.

Will pray "Jimmy" will fully recover from his stroke ("CVA"). Is he taking anything to prevent further CVAs? I have had a total of 4 ministrokes ("TIA") from which I have partially recovered. I still am "balance challenged" but have learned to correct my balance another way.

I'm sorry to learn of your sisters setback. I continue to pray for her.

Please don't stay away so long!

Blessings to you and yours
