Check out the website "obesityhelp.com" about the various procedures. The one that doesn't get a lot of "airtime" is the Biliopancreatic Diversion with Duodenal Switch which is commonly referred to as the DS or "Switch" procedure. This method has had the greatest success with eliminating insulin and oral medication use. It is only "indicated" however for those considered to be Morbidly Obese.

I weighed 389 pounds in early August of 2004. Had the DS surgery performed at the end of August [Thank You Dr. Smith - you saved my life]. My lowest post-operative weight was 190, so about a 200 pound difference. Today I am comfortable with my life at 230 pounds and a little Glyburide to see me through. However I came off the insulin within a month of the surgery and was able to stop the oral meds within 6 months of the surgery.

It may or may not help your BG control, of if it does at first may not for very long. Everybody is different.

There have been many discussions here on DC on variations of this proceedure. You can click "discussions" on the left border, and enter your search term in the box in the upper right of the page with the green square with the spyglass icon on the right. You might want to search about the gastric surgery, the lap band surgery and roux n y surgery.

There are also articles in the "News articles" section which you can search for like you did for the discussions. I know that Emelia Klapp put up some articles on the different types of gastric altering surgery.

I pray you find what you're looking for.
