Hello one and all here at DC. Just a little note to say that I am a bit anxious about my upcoming surgery which will be Tuesday March 1. I don't know what time it will be but I guess just the waiting is what is making me anxious. I know deep in my heart that everything will be okay but still there is always that little nagging in the back of your mind. Please remember me in your thoughts and prayers and as soon as possible I will let you all know how things went and how I am doing. Thanks for being such a great and wonderful group to be around.

Good evening dear friends here at DC, just a little note to say that tomorrow March 8 I go back to the doctor for the follow up visit after surgery a week ago. Most likely will have a good report and I was able to go back to work today after being out for the week. Sure did miss my students so I was glad to get back to them. Have a good night everyone.

Thanks, I am on the road to recovery just moving a bit slower than normal. Had first thought I would be back at work yesterday but then I was so very sore all over that I could hardly move so I will go back to work on Monday. Thanks for the good well wishes, I appreciate them all. Widowface you have a very beautiful smile.

Happy to hear all went well. It's late Thursday night so I'll say this for Friday. Hope the pain has subsided more today.

birch21 2011-03-04 09:12:16 -0600 Report

Good morning, yes the pain has subsided more and I am slowly beginning to feel more like myself. Am still taking things slowly.

Glad to see that you are doing well, take very good care of yourself!

birch21 2011-03-03 21:51:05 -0600 Report

I will and thanks for the well wishes. Soreness is getting a bit better but still not gone. It is a little easier to move my neck but still hurts to try and cough. Had some excitement around the house today. My neighbor decided to burn a small pile of leaves and yep the wind was blowing. Needless to say the wind sent the fire into my side lot and thankfully the neighbors came over and had the fire pretty well out before the fired dept arrived as usual. Sure is nice to have good neighbors.

GabbyPA 2011-03-04 05:21:48 -0600 Report

We had that happen once and it was amazing how everyone pulls together to take care of that. Ours happened when a kid tried to throw his cigarette butt into the lake and missed and it caught the lake grass on fire. That spread so fast up here in winter as we are very dry. I have to agree. That will get your heart going and the adrenalin flowing.

birch21 2011-03-04 09:18:50 -0600 Report

Ours is a volunteer dept and they are kind of slow respnding to many emergencies. When they finally do get to a fire or whatever they are out in full force and they do a good job just sometimes it is easier for the negihbors to pull together and get it done. We have laughed about out fire dept many times and I can remember one time there was a call below where I live and the fire dept was called. They wound up in the wrong community and when they got back the hose fell off the truck and they were dragging it up the road with a car behind blowing the horn trying to get their attention to the hose dragging. A funny sight to behold. Looked a lot like the keystone cops.

birch21 2011-03-07 23:37:59 -0600 Report

Yep it was a sight to behold. Where I live you never know what is going to happen next. The area I live in used to be a dairy farm and when they subdivided it they left it as hilly as ever. Needless to say that when a big truck would try to climb 2 hills in a row something was bound to happen especially if they were heavily loaded. One poor truck tried to climb the 2nd hill 3x before the driver and his passenger bailed out and let the truck roll back down the hill and plow over a mailbox and wind up in a ditch breaking the axil of the truck. At least that time we didn't need the fire dept. There have been numerous wrecks on the road that I live on and usually they end up blocking traffic heading towards the highway and no one at my driveway to turn people around so I have done that chore many times all the while watching to see what equipment is going to be brought to the scene next. Usually every truck availale and an ambulance or 2 along with all the volunteers who drive their personal vehicles. The police show up in force and of course you have to bring in a couple of tow trucks to add to the mix. So far no one has been killed but some close calls. I don't know what we would do without the fire dept, police, and other such groups but they are a sight to see when they are in action or as they arrive on the scene. Oops didn't mean to keep going on and on about the emergency personnel in my neighborhood but couldn't help myself as I think about some of the things they have done while getting to an emergency.

birch21 2011-03-07 23:57:06 -0600 Report

Yep could possibly win some with all the funny things that happen. Have a good night as now I must get ready for bed as tomorrow is yet another workday and will be a really long day for me. I have work and then Dr. appt, and finish off the day with choir practice. So now I bid you a good night and I will check in maybe tomorrow night.

birch21 2011-03-03 08:20:54 -0600 Report

Thanks everyone, I am doing fine but am still very sore all over. Was afraid I would not be able to get out of bed this morning with my neck being so sore but I did manage with a lot of moaning and groaning. Have taken a pain tablet to see if that will relax me enough to reduce some of this soreness. Thanks for all the prayers and kind thoughts I appreciate them all.

birch21 2011-03-07 23:42:57 -0600 Report

I am so sorry that I didn't reply sooner to this post but have just now seen it. Yes you are right about finding out about being diabetic is a shock but here we all fit together to make one big puzzle and we are here for one another. You hang in there and you will be surprised that everyone will help you. I know that for me I still have times when I don't believe that I am a diabetic but then I know that I am and just try to regroup or come here and call upon all these wonderful friends. I sometimes amaze myself at how strong that I am when I have many things going on inside of me that I want to just scream at times and yell and holler that life is not fair but then you know I look to God and all the wonderful people here and know that I am going to make it.

birch21 2011-03-02 16:58:28 -0600 Report

Yes things went well and I am going to be fine. I am just so sore all over. Hurts to laugh and even swallow or talk. Thankful that I live alone but have Mom right next door to help out. I even hurt when I move my head and neck. Someone asked me earlier today if they could get me anything and at the time I didn't really want anything but right now I sure do wish I had a great big Diet Cola just one to satisify my craving. oh well, i will just dream about having one.

birch21 2011-03-02 09:23:00 -0600 Report

Hello, my dear friends here at DC. Just wanted to stop in and give you all an update. The surgery went well and I was able to come home yesterday afternoon. I was sceduled to be at the hospital at 8:15 CST and so got there a little early. Once they carried me back to my room found out that my surgeon had an emergency surgery come in through the ER so that put me and one other patient on the back burner. The procedure didn't take long at all. It was harder for me to wake up than the procedure lasted. Needless to say we spent pretty much the entire day at the hospital. I called my job this morning and told them I would be off the remainder of the week as I am pretty sore and will be for a few days. Thanks to all of you for your many thoughts and prayers. I will check back in later on. Have a great day.

GabbyPA 2011-03-02 12:33:30 -0600 Report

Good news is always welcome here! Glad to hear it went well.

birch21 2011-03-02 12:46:21 -0600 Report

Thanks, now if I can just get all the soreness gone. I am sore all over from my neck all the way to my legs. I will survive this as I have already come this far. At least I have the remainder of the week to recouperate and feel very much like I am going to need it. Thanks for all the prayers and support I appreciate every bit.

GabbyPA 2011-03-02 12:48:27 -0600 Report

Sore is good, reminds us that we are mortal. It also makes us more willing to rest when we should. Before you know it, it will be a story you share with your grand kids.

birch21 2011-03-02 12:55:17 -0600 Report

Yep sore is a good thing except when I want to laugh or need to cough. I am surely doing the resting part. Won't be sharing this story with any grand kids as there are none in my future. Thanks for the thoughts anyway.

GabbyPA 2011-03-02 12:57:35 -0600 Report

Well, when we get really old, we don't care whose kids they are, they are all our grand kids...LOL. Get better soon.

birch21 2011-03-02 13:06:11 -0600 Report

Thanks, I am already there in the getting older dept. I am teaching kids of kids I went to school with and even now have some of their grandkids. I have lots of kids as I teach almost 700 if not more a yr. I am LOL and hurting like all get out.

GabbyPA 2011-03-02 13:10:14 -0600 Report

See, there you go...all kinds of grand kids. AND you don't have to buy them all christmas gifts!

birch21 2011-03-02 16:59:39 -0600 Report

You are right about no gifts, but I do give out hugs to a few very special kids and get them in return. Sometimes a hug is all that is needed to brighten up a day.

Prayers and best wishes for your surgery. The waiting at the hospital is the worst part for me. Once they give me the sleepy stuff it's all easy. My husband and I tell knock knock jokesin Danish to keep my mind busy while waiting. I always hope that it will keep me from saying stupid things in English when I am under the influence.

birch21 2011-02-28 21:33:41 -0600 Report

Thanks for the best wishes. Yes the waiting is the worst part of all. Not to mention having to get the IV started but I like the sleepy stuff and just hope I don't say anything stupid. Thanks again for the prayers and wishes.

birch21 2011-02-28 15:07:17 -0600 Report

Okay folks, I have found out what time I have to be at the hospital in the morning. Of course my arrival time is just getting there and waiting until they get ready to call me back for the prep and the actual surgery. I have to be at the hospital at 8:15 CST and then I have no idea what time surgery will be. I don't even get to eat or drink anything tonight after 10 pm CST, but I will be okay and I know that everything is going to work out just fine. Thanks to everyone for the well wishes and good thoughts. I will check back in when I am able which will probably be Wed and let everyone know how things turned out.

GabbyPA 2011-02-28 14:24:00 -0600 Report

Any surgery is a big thing. Even if it is "small" Anytime we are doing something to our bodies that is not in the range of "normal" things can get tense. Try not to focus too much on that but on a great recovery. That will help your mind battle the fear some. I know my mom did that for her knee surgery and her recovery amazed the doctor. She just focused on getting better....and she did.

birch21 2011-02-28 14:44:52 -0600 Report

Thanks Gabby, I will focus on the end result of getting better and I already feel much better. I know that I am going to be just fine. Well I found out what time I am to be at the hospital for surgery tomorrow. I have to be there at 8:15 CST and that is just the waiting until they call be back for prep for the actual surgery. Don't know exactly what time the surgery will be but it is not going to be an early one, and I get nothing to eat or drink after 10pm CST tonight, but I am okay with that. Thanks again.

GabbyPA 2011-02-28 14:57:07 -0600 Report

Also, if you have a friend or a family member who is there to make sure that the nurses are paying attention to your diabetes specially after the surgery. I did that for my mom and if nothing else, it made me feel better to know that someone was watching out for her. Our prayers are with you.

Thanks Gabby, I know that my Mom and a good family friend will be there watching like a hawk making sure that I am well cared for.

Why, yes of course, I will pray for you Lydia!

May God be with you and with the surgeons and your medical team.

Dear Lord, grant Lydia the comfort about her upcoming surgery which only YOU can give. Surround her with Your protecting angels. Be with the surgeons and all who care for her. May she have the desired outcome. In Jesus' name

(I have said before that what may be a minor surgery on someone else, is major surgery if one getting cut on personally.)
