Hello. My name is Aldora and I would like to make a comment on my newest form of exercise: I am currently overweight with Type 2 diabetes and my doctor told me that if I were to lose weight, my diabetes might be under control or gone away for good. I am still working on the diet part but I think that I got the exercise part down! It was very hard for me to just start walking because I would always find some sort of excuse for not doing it, like the neighborhood was not safe enough or that I don't have the time to walk. Despite all this, I have managed to walk and I had an exercise partner as well ( my fiance) who still supports me. But alas, I stopped exercising because although it was beneficial, it was not fun and I felt like I had failed at acheiving my goal. But then I got the idea when I first tried the video game for the Nintendo Wii called Just Dance 2. I know that it may seem a bit childish, that I would have to rely on a video game for my exercise routine. But to me this was a lot different than just playing Mario. When I tried the dancing, I was moving my body all over instead of a handshake here or a jump there. I was actually working my body hard and it was worth it. Although I did not perform exactly like the dancer on the TV did, my overall performance had me sweating profusely and my heart beating fast and the best part was that I actually had a lot of fun doing it. I really was impressed because of how simple and effective the workout was. I am intending on purchasing the game and using it slowly and gradually @ first, then working out faster and more intense once I get the hang of it. I consider this as part of my routine because it inspires me to move one step ahead of my goal while having fun and doing what you love in the process and to me if you have good mental health then you can also have great physical health because a sound mind and body go hand in hand! So I would recommend this for anyone who looks to having just a little bit of fun in the process. I am not saying that it would be right for everyone because it sometimes can't be, like walkng is only beneficial to some or bicycling is helpful to others. But to me, though I always value walking as the most beneficial exercise that my doctor has told me, I always like to have a different approach that has the same effectiveness and benefits as walking but you can have fun and feel good about doing it and for me I achieved the latter by exercising on the Wii. Since I have exercised on the Wii, I have lost 6 pounds- little by little I am that much closer to my goal and I can honestly say that I feel good doing it and in the process have a higher level of self- esteem! Even my fiance is proud of what I have accomplished so far and I am happy that he is! Thank you!

Congrats on the weight loss. If you like to dance then you might enjoy Jazzercise. I love the friends and support group I have made with the gorls in my class. My instructor has taken me under her wing and texts me to see if I am coming.

I have now lost a total of 7 lbs- I went from 246 to 239 which the latter is my current weight! I am so happy that Just Dance 2 is giving me so much inspiration to lose weight. I have just recently purchased the original Just Dance game!!

Congratulations on more weight loss! You go girl! :D

But I must say - There you go again, commenting on how good Just Dance 2 is. I have no rhythm but you sure are tempting me to get a copy!

And, as a footnote - the cardio for beginner CD's that I referenced in my earlier response are too much for me, also known by my made-up Indian name of "She of No Rhythm". Heck, I can barely walk with co-ordination, much less move back & forth & sideways while bringing my knee up to my chest and extending my arms all at the same time! :/

If you like that you may want to try zumba, dance arobics to a latin beat most often. But be careful because it is totally addicting. It helps me control my blood sugars and instead of watching the clock to see if your hour is over your surprised when the time is up.

I don't think it is childish at all. Besides, where is it written that only children can enjoy fun stuff?

I use the Wii Fit Plus and do the Free Step in the Aerobic section four times a week. And while it has helped me to build up a little more stamina, I sometimes find it a bit boring, soooo, I ordered a couple of Cardio for Beginners DVD's. And they may be good videos, but I have noooo rhythm whatsoever so I had a real hard time with even the beginning of the first one I tried. I will try the second next week.

Does the Just Dance 2 require a person have rhythm?

I love to dance. It works out the body, and the mind, and in social dancing (with a partner) it is healthy for the social side of people. For a number of years I had been involved in a dance class which taught East Coast Swing. (The class has now disbanded) I had fallen seriously ill a couple times during the class. I was so motivated to get back to dancing I came back from nearly total disability to join the class and get back to dancing.

I am proud of you too Aldora, YOU GO GIRL!

Blessings to you and yours

That's not silly! Good for you for finding a good exercise for yourself. My nieces had a dance video game going one Christmas and asked me to join them (and I'm 54) and I did. I have a dance background so I was actually better than about half of them. It was fun for hours! (taking turns, of course) I appreciated it because sometimes it's harder to get in the exercise on family vacations.
