Found out in last couple days that the pads that we've been buying from CVS, Walmart and others made by TRIAD have been recalled in early January and voluntarily taken off the shelf. No signs were posted and nothing was said on news. Apparently, the pad has been tainted with some kind of bacteria that causes Shingles LIKE symptoms. It's called Cellulitis. My hubby has been suffering from it since April 10. We can't seem to find any more that AREN'T made by TRIAD. See FDA Recall site for more details.

Stop using them, if you have them.

Thank you so much for the information, I have some of those haven't used them yet, trying to finish what I already have first. That's very scary how things can happen. thanks again!

I don't think you should continue using them. Call TRIAD or take them back to store purchased from and see if they'll refund money.

I'm no lawyer, but think they won't have much of a choice but to refund them especially if box is marked CVS brand made by TRIAD and you bought them at CVS. Just my opinion.

I'm glad that so many people saw and responded to my post. All we can do is pass the info along. TRIAD will be coming out with another pad with benzocaine on it, I've been told, once they figure out how this bunch got comtaminated. No clue how long it may take. My hubby experienced a burning sensation under the skin after injecting the insulin. He thought it was because of how cold it was, but now he thinks it has to do with the pad. He used to wipe down the top of the bottle too. The pharmacist says, "Chances are, the insulin is now tainted and not to use it."

I'm not sure that my husband actually has cellulitis, but the symptoms are there. He has a burning of the skin in large areas, that mimic shingles ; with no sores. My pulling the bed covers makes him cringe, as does air blowing across his chest. It's very painful. His biggest complaint is: Why didn't the stores that sold these pads, put a notice up in the window or on the shelf after the recall? They wanted to sweep it under the rug! Besides, it was voluntary.

I guess your best bet is to chuck all TRIAD products, see your doctor, and call the FDA.

Good luck to all of you.

I haven't used them but had been thinking about it. Like Harlen I think it is best to use alcohol & cotton balls.
