If you still have no meter I suggest going to this site and asking for a donation: http://www.defeatdiabetes.org/

One of the other members posted a discussion about it, I signed up and got a free meter in a week, it also has fairly cheap strips, especially if you are willing to use eBay for your strip shopping needs.

If you're like me it' one thing to get a free meter but it's entirely different to get a meter that uses strips I can afford as well. After all it's the strips that we have to keep buying.

Here is a News article I posted about prescription assistance. It was published on the ADA site - see if you qualify: http://www.diabeticconnect.com/news-articles/...

Have you applied for Medicaid? That is a good start. I always see free meters. Log on to One Touch, I think they will send you a meter and a few free strips, at least that is a start. I will look for the exact link for that free meter and post it for you when I find it. You are in my prayers, I am also uninsured and it sure is hard. Jersey is a hard state to get benefits, but go online and apply for food stamps and medicaid, I think you can get cash assistance, according to what kind of money you have in your checking account. You can get started online, just go to the state of new jersey website and get started, do it today, the sooner the better. Good luck!

I am in the same boat as you and I was untreated for almost a year until I found my clinic.

What I did was call my local hospital and ask them about their "free" programs. They in turn, put me in touch with a clinic. It is not free, but it is based on income. I pay only $10 to visit the doctor and $5 for lab work. They also offer prescription help, but I get mine very cheap and some are free anyway...so I don't use that.

You can also call your local health department and set up an appointment to see if you qualify to be serviced by them. I could only qualify for community disease treatment, and that is not what I have...so I kept looking.

I'm so sorry to hear of your situation! Maybe ask your local health department for a refferal? Maybe they can direct you to a clinic. I know out here in california my health departmnt helped me find a program for free for my sharps container and needle disposal. They have contacts for all the free clinics. I truely wish you the very best and God bless! If you ever need a friend to talk with I'll be here for you!
