Hello Everyone,

I was just wondering how everybody was doing. I read all of our discussions and problems, but sometimes I think we need to just say today i feel good. Today I am in Va and visiting my sister and her family. She is married with three kids. Twin boys who are 7, a little girl who is 5, and my sister is also 9 months pregnant. She is going to have a little girl any day now. I am having a great time. I love these kids as if they were my own. When I am down here I feel a sense of self worth. I am able to help her in any way I can. Where when I am at home I am just laying around. I cannot work and I am on social security disability. I may not be able to do much at home, but anything I do down here I know is greatly appreciated. Anyways, today I am Happy and I feel good. How are you?

VA is always a great place to be. I work in VA and live across the line in WV. I love the mountains. When we were small we went to SC from Philly and I loved going through VA, NC, SC, and TN. Also like KY. Although born in the city and spent 20 years in Philly, 20 in Lancaster, I love the country. Enjoy the time with your sister and with the kids. I know my granddaughter makes me feel like I should be called "King Pop =pop" instead of just pop-pop.

Mas, I just wanted to say that I have been reading your replies and find myself compelled to say that you have the most beautiful spirit. You are so upbeat and pleasant that you can not help but make others smile. How beautiful you are. Thank You for the smiles.

What a beautiful post! Thanks a lot for sharing something that is meaningful in your life. When we give to others, we also heal ourselves. I am sure that your siter and her family appreciate you more than you can imagine.

Now, that raises a question. When you return home, what are some activities that you can add to your life to keep the momentum going, and to help you continue to build up your self-esteem.? Maybe some volunteer work? Giving a helping hnd to friends or family who live closer to you?

This might be something to think about. Wanna brainstorm?

But here's one more perspective. Self-worth also comes from within. You are a worthwhile human being who has much to offer the world. That's a given. Still, gathering some evidence along the way, as you are doing with your sister and her family, certainly helps you to make the case.

I hope you continue to enjoy your visit. Keep us posted.

Well, it looks like i am going to be here for a while longer than I thought that I would be, I am very excited to say that I was just accepted into and artificial pancreas study at the university of virginia. I have been trying to get into something like this fgor a while now. I am hoping that this will open some doors for me or at least lead me in the right direction for better diabetes care. I am not sure of all of the details but what I have learned so far i am very excited.
As to your question about what I will do when I get home, I plan on going to the gym, and I have a cousin and a best friend who are both 9 months pregnant. I have offered help to them. It will be hard going back home, I am trying to stay or move to the virginia area. I know my sister would love it. she only asks me every day and with one more baby on the way, I know she needs it.
Thanks for your kind words.
God Bless,

That is an incredible opportunity. I hope that you share it in a separate discussion. I would hate for this great moment to be missed by so many who would be encouraged to hear how it goes for you. Congratulations!!

My numbers are coming down, so I have more energy than I did a month ago, which also means that my husband and I can start trying for baby number two! Yeah! BUT, I have been snowed in for 2 days now (with a toddler) and am feeling the winter blues!!! AHHH, I have to get out of the house…spring can start anytime now!

I'm feeling OK today. Health-wise I feel pretty good. My sugars have been good, my A1c is down to 6.1 as of January. My cholesterol and my blood pressure are up next.

However I'm super stressed out lately. The coworker at my job (who's kind of made my life a living hell for the past 2 years) was fired a week ago from last Friday so I've been super slammed and alone at work taking care of the job of two people. Kinda feeling burned out. I ended up not even leaving the house Saturday and just relaxing and vegging out. Every day is super busy and can sometimes go to 10 hour at the office with another hour or two remotely supporting users at home (I'm in IT).

Things with my gf are stressed and strained right now. Her parents are divorcing and her father is looking to put their house on the market and move, so she's stressed about where she's going to live in a few months and how far it will be from me, which in turn stresses ME out!

My sister is having a rough time right now financially. She had to declare bankruptcy for the second time in her life and her marriage is kind of in shambles. This is affecting my niece and nephew a bit as well so I worry about that.

I'm glad you're having a nice week though! :P

mas14years 2011-02-22 15:54:54 -0600 Report

I am sorry that you are having a tough time. I would like to say congrats on the a1c though, that is great. As for the coworker look at it as you dont have to deal with his crap anymore and hopefully they will hire somebody new soon to help you with all of the work. Sometimes just staying home and doing nothing can be nice. I know I do it myself, as long as we dont do it all of the time. That is a really long day, i know I couldnt do it.
I am sorry to hear about your gf and her parents, I went through something similar. When my parents seperated I lived with my mom for years until she was ready to move in with her boyfriend of two years. I then had to move in with my dadwhich was not good. He is just too sloppy and likes to go out and party too much. Next I had moved to va to help my sister out for 4 months when she had moved here herself, and then I was three other places/ It was a lot of moving and I would hope to never have to go through that again. Good luck to her.
I guess all you can do for your sister is just be there for her and help out with the kids if you are able to. Things always seem to hit at the same time. It can only get better from here. I am here if you need to talk or vent about anything.
Good luck and god bless

Today I feel great…I really like your discussion. I am glad you are with your sister and family and staying busy helping. For me, I always feel better when I can help other people instead of sitting and dwelling on my aches and pains. Like they say, it is far better to give than just sit and do nothing with your life. Good for you!

mas14years 2011-02-22 15:55:44 -0600 Report

THank you! Yes I feel a sense of self worth here rather than self loathing when I am at home doing nothing

mas14years 2011-02-22 15:56:30 -0600 Report

are you taking anything for this.. Neurontin, lyrica? Do you have neuropathy

jayabee52 2011-02-22 16:17:01 -0600 Report

Yep, Diabetic Neuropathy. I have tried Gabepentin/Neurontin, and am now taking Nortryptaline (an antidepressant). Unfortunately, nothing seems to work. It seems I just gotta live with it. Makes it hard to exercise.

mas14years 2011-02-23 20:05:21 -0600 Report

I hate that. They need to find something to help us out. I currently am on neurontin and it seems to really help me. The only thing they can tell me is to have better diabetic control, but they dont know how to better control it. It is very frustrating. Oh they must do better!!!!

VickieF 2011-02-25 23:19:30 -0600 Report

Yes they do. My feet have hurt so bad the last few days that I just want to chop them off.Like jaybee I have tried the Gabepentin with little to no relief. The shooting pain is the worst.

GabbyPA 2011-02-21 20:39:36 -0600 Report

As James Brown would say..."I feel good!"
I have been tired, but it is from working hard in the garden and at my weekend job. I feel good because I feel accomplished and that always makes me feel great about the day. Nothing can turn my day around faster than the feeling of accomplishing a goal or two.

mas14years 2011-02-22 15:57:27 -0600 Report

I love it!!!!!!!!!!! I love to hear when things are going well for someone. I feel like when one of us is happy or something good is going on, we all kinda stop and smile
