My father-in-law was just diagnosed with type 2 diabetes? Any good advice and/or resource I can check out?

When I was diagnosed, I found this, The most EXCELLENT and INFORMATIVE book (at least to me) "The First Year, Type 2 Diabetes, An Essential Guide for the Newly Diagnosed" (A Patient-Expert Walks You Through Everything You Need to Learn and Do). The author is Gretchen Becker.

I more than recommend this!! I suggest this be a permanent fixation in every Type 2's library!! It helped me so much that first year and has continued to be a good source of info when needed.

He posted the one I was thinking of :) I read this book immediately, immense help. Grab it cheap on Amazon or Half.com. Used on Amazon you can get it for as little as under $10 with shipping.

Ditto, I also bought this book and really enjoyed reading it. I keep it beside my chair and find I pick it up very frequently to refer to something or other in it. I highly recommend this book.

That book will only help if he is taking insulin since it's all about insulin and how to figure out the best way of using it. The First Year—Type 2 Diabetes by Gretchen Becker is often said to be very good, you can also look in the book club section of this website. http://loraldiabetes.blogspot.com/ is a good site, you may have to spend time looking around it though to find what you want. Here's a kicking off point. http://loraldiabetes.blogspot.com/2006/10/d-d...

Hi. When I was first diagonsed with diabetes I went online to amazon and bought some books for the "newly diagnosed" diabetic. They had a wealth of information in them and also they help with coping with the disease. They explain everything completely. They have great tips on what to eat and what not to eat and why. They go over the disease as a whole. They discuss different treatment options. They explain medication and what it does. They deal with the emotional aspect of the disease also. I can't stress enough how much these books helped me. I found a number of different titles for very cheap on amazon. My favorite title was "think like a panceras" I know its a weird title but it really helped me because I take insulin and it goes into detail about that. You can browse the numerous titles. The books come fast too! Remember knowledge is power and that's very helpful when it comes to diabetes. This is what really helped me! I wish you the best! God bless!
