So this past year my insurance changed and I found myself out of an HMO and into a private practice for my primary care. I have not exactly been a model diabetic, but decided I needed to get serious and take charge. I researched my options for doctors and I came upon a practice that specialized in diabetes management. My first visit was a good/bad one. The nurse practicioner was very serious but caring. When I told her who my insurance/care was with before she cursed! She was angry and that was encouraging. After changing some meds and dosages, she set me up an appointment to see their nutrionist for an hour one on one and 3 group classes. I went friday and my numbers were not great to say the least (A1c of 11.5) I have had it down to as low as 7 before). I now have some hope and a lot of support and working on knowledge. I actually seem hopeful now. I'm not going to advertise the Dr. here,b ut if anyone lived in Atlanta and is interested I will give you thier information.

I'm so glad you found a wonderful doctor! That's so important for your treatment plan! I feel you must have a close realationship with your doctor in order to be able to find the correct treatment plan for you.I know when I got put on insulin it took several different dose changes before I got it right. Also it took adding another 24 hour insulin to my other insulin before I reallysaw results. Now my numbers are wonderful! Point being a doctor plays a very important roll in our self care.I'm so happy for you! Please keep us posted on how your doing ok?happy valentines day :)
