So You're Single But Can You Enjoy Valentine's Day Too?

People say that Valentine's day is for lovers, but I'm celebrating another Valentine's day loving myself. Afterall, if you don't love yourself, you can't really love someone else.

So while I wait for the love of my life to come into my life, I enjoy my life. I choose to pamper myself rather than pout about another Valentine's day with no one to share it with.

My Valentine's day consists of getting my hair done, getting a massage, getting a manicure and a pedicure. Then I buy a cute outfit and shoes that goes well with the color of my freshly painted fingernails.

My next move is going to a nice restaurant where I see all the loving couples together, but I confidently and unashamedly sit my single self down and enjoy a lovely meal. I figure if you can truly enjoy a Valentine's day alone, how much more enjoyable it will be when you can one day share it with someone.

Even with one guy dropping to his knees to propose to his Valentine, I am not intimidated by all the love I feel around me, but I embrace it and genuinely clap in celebration of two hearts becoming one. So despite the tears in my eyes, my heart is yet hopeful for my own love story.

I end my evening at the movies. One year I had the entire movie theater to myself. I prefer to watch an action movie rather than a love story one on Valentine's day. So playing that Valentine's day was Daredevil. It had the action I wanted and yes, a little bit of love : )

So you're single, but can you enjoy Valentine's day too? Yes you can!!! So all my single people, what are your plans for Valentine's Day?

What a great post. With your attitude and ability to communicate, you won't be on the market long!!!!! Good luck to you!

I had a lovely evening out on Valentine's Day, but I'm looking forward to an even lovelier one next year as I am hopeful that I will be sharing it with the "one".

I always treat myself on valentines day cause I love myself. When I was working I celebrated it with the kids I worked with cause I loved working with them.

Kaiyle 2011-02-15 07:50:19 -0600 Report

This is what I had to learn Squog. I had to learn how to love myself and only then was I able to treat myself good. Thank you so much for sharing your lovely insight.

Thank you Doc. I had to learn that to truly celebrate Valentine's Day with my friends, I had to learn how to truly celebrate it for myself. Now, I like to think that I'm the life of the party…lol.

Hi Kaiyle, I have been single since last year the week before Thanksgiving I was engaged to be married but I didn't see the ways things where going when I should have I tried to close my eyes to the issues in our realationship. It is tough being single beacause you know that all of us single woman want to have kids. But I learned from my previous relationship what not to do in the next relationship and to take things slow.

Hello Amy. You made the right decision not to marry when both of you weren't on the same page. You know, since we've waited this long for the right one, we might as well hold out for the one we can be ourselves with.

You know, we only have one life to live, and I choose not to live it feeling sorry for myself. I'm looking forward to my evening out and who knows, perhaps the right one will see me tonight, but if not, I will still enjoy my Valentine's Day evening. I hope your night at work will go smoothly and that the time will seem to pass by quickly. Happy Valentine's Day.

Excellent, Kaiyle! You are a fountain of inspiration. I think I mostly hid out at home on Valentine's Day when I was single.

Kaiyle 2011-02-14 16:51:14 -0600 Report

Thank you so much for that Caliko. To be honest, I've had my hide out at home days too, but I grew tired of that and made a change for the better. I'm just happy in my own skin.

Well, I am not single anymore but I won't crash this party.

I did not marry until I was 39 and that was my first go around in EVERY way...if you know what I mean. LOL I went through the longing when I was in my mid 20's and then I found a great joy and comfort in my being with just me. I learned to really enjoy my singlehood and there are times still when I miss that special freedom. Valentines day was never a day of sorrow for me, it was a time of celebrating the wonderful friendships I have. Male or female, our friends are the ones we share our lives with so if you have one or two that are out there "unattached" then hang out with them or hang out with your best friend....yourself. Either way, celebrate the joy of relationships.

Happy Valentine's day everyone

Thank you for sharing a beautiful piece of your life with us. This means so much to me because I've waited faithfully all my life, and I remain faithful for the gift of marriage and children. I have come to enjoy my singlehood, but I must admit that sometimes I have those longings of wanting to share my life with someone, especially when I hold a newborn. I just start to feel maternal and all…lol Just like you've said, I'm enjoying the blessed relationships that I have, and I'm enjoying my life. Oh, and thanks for crashing this party with such wonderful testimony and wisdom. Happy Valentine's Day!!!

My plans are to continue my recuperating process relating to my surgery.
To me, every day is a holiday, whether or not I am single!

I can wait, but when that special someone comes along, she will be treated as the very special person that she is, and will be unto me.

Enjoy your outing, and "Happy Valentine's Day!"

Kaiyle 2011-02-13 09:03:34 -0600 Report

I hope you are getting along well with your recuperating process. I have no doubt that the woman who wins your heart will be most fortunate to call you her own. Happy Valentine's Day my lovely friend, and thank you.
