How Sweet will your Valentines Day be?

Watch your sugar consumption very carefully, although it may be tempting to dip a few strawberries in chocolate, the sweetness of the day should come from you.

If you do decide to indulge, why not consume some sugar free chocolates?

Keep yourself, and others in line with managing your diabetes by being aware of your limitations in consuming alcoholic beverages, chocolates, and other delectable edibles.

Remember, there is nothing more Romantic, or Sweeter than "You" on Valentine's Day!

I talked to my hubby this year and we decided that we would not share sweets or cards or even a special valentines dinner....we are going to the Military Surplus store to get mosquito netting for each other. LOL!! We decided that we would be very practical this year. I wonder if it comes in pink? =0)

ok…mosquito netting??

GabbyPA 2011-02-14 18:07:11 -0600 Report

Yep, we live in Florida and the bugs in the summer get kind of unbearable. I ended up not getting mosquito netting, but a cute camo tank top. He got a few more things and then we stopped at Tractor Supply to get some pots for our blueberry plants we needed to plant today. So we had a good day, just being together the two of us. It is hard time to get with our multi generational family, so it's nice when we can sneak off and do anything together.

That is very thoughtful of both you, and your husband.
Valentine's day is about love, and togetherness, in both thought and deed.
You just may find that mosquito netting in pink!
Happy Valentines Day!

None was pink, just the olive green...but they had some pink camo. It was all for little kids though...which is okay with me. I don't really like pink. LOL

I just recently found out that i'm type 2 diabetic…this is all new to me…I'm a chocolate lover…my weakness is chocolate…I have tried dreyer's slow-churned triple chocolate-NO SUGAR ADDED ice cream…it is YUMMY…it takes care of the craving…I also like to read labels on carbs too!! Very helpful HAPPY VALENTINES DAY!!

I really like the Breyer's ice cream too. The flavors are great and there are times that you would like to make a shake so this ice cream works good for that. Just add a little fat free milk to a scoop of ice cream, and an envelope of artificial sweetner to make a great shake in the blender!

Thanks for the information, I have to try the Breyers Ice Cream, as well as the milk shake!

Welcome to the Family!

Diabetes can be scary, but it doesn't have to be.
As long as you communicate with your medical team, follow a planned course of action that includes exercise, medications (if necessary), and a carefully planned diet, you should be fine.

Good post Mays there are plenty of other nice things for vday other than candy like roses, a warm fire, bubble baths, cards, balloons, friendship, conversation I could go on. Besides a rose smells just as sweet as candy tastes. Vday can really hurt us if were not careful. I really don't think I'll miss the candy this year! Other things can be just as sweet! :) holidays can be hard but for me I think christmas was harder than vday. I'm determined to have a sugar free vday.

I love the "Romantic Overtones" of your comment.
I agree that there is so much more, something sweeter than sweet.
The Beauty of a Rose is surpassed only by the Beauty of a Woman!

Why thank you!
To me, every day is special, or as Jackie Gleason used to say,
"How Sweet It Is!"
And so are you, may you also enjoy your day!

I'm like Harlan I will eat one regular choclate candy at tmes. I admit I like the Russell Stover sugar free stuff and every year close to valentine's my hubby gets me either a heart shaped box of that, or box (not large) of Whitman's Sampler sugar free. I eat one a day until they are gone! My daughter helps me, so it's not like I eat too much of it and I know you can have a certain "side effect" so I am careful not to eat too many.

You have such great control, and will power!
How is the Russell Stover Sugar Free Chocolates?
I have to try them one day!
Happy Valentines Day!

Russell Stovers is like the best. lol They for the most part have no after taste like a lot of sugar free candies. For anyone that likes mints they make a French Mint that looks like the Andie's mints. Awsome! My brothers that could not stand anything "Sugar Free" used to go and snitch a pice or several lol of my Moms' French Mints. Also there are newer candies from baskin robins that are really good. The one thing that most of us forget. Just because they are Sugar free or no sugar added does not mean we should eat them all at once, yummy though they are. And if a treat is able to remain a treat then we should only have it once in awhile. Otherwise it is the every day nolonger a treat.

Tabby, what kind of side effect are you talking about when it comes to sugar free candies? I'm not familier with them having side effects! Cause I tend to eat too many in one sitting. I guess cause they are sugar free, I think it's OK…

Harlen 2011-02-13 09:37:08 -0600 Report

If I am going to have a pice of chocolot give me the real thing but only one lol lol lol
To me if I wish a treet and dont give it to meI will eat every thing other then the one thin I wish so for me if I wish a candy I will have a candy but only one and that takes away the need . No I cant have all I wish but I can have one.
It seams to work well for me .
Best wishes
