Hey everyone! I'm on 1000mg of Metformin (Glucophage) twice a day, breakfast and dinner. Works great but the biggest problem I have with it is that I get a good deal of gas and the other associated side effects.

I was wondering would Acidophilus help out?

I take mine at random times during my meal but mostly during the end and have no trouble from it unless I eat certain things. For me if I eat too many carbs or something especially sugary I get issues big time and we're not talking just gas.

Though I've noticed a bit of a gas issue if I eat lettuce but that doesn't happen every single time and I'm not sure if it's the metformin causing the issue or just the lettuce, either way I like salads too much to give them up so I just pop a gas pill and move on.

The first month or so was the worst for me, when my body was getting used to it. First I didn't read the label and wasn't taking it with food and then I slowly figured out what made things worse. I've found that if I eat high fiber/low carb meals the metformin isn't mean to my insides but if I slip a little I regret it big time.

No, it won't do much. There are a couple of things you can do. First is switch to the XR version if you are not already on it. It's time released so it doesn't hit you all at the same time. The other is to take it during a meal. Not before or after but literally in the middle of your meal.

I've been trying to take it not right at the beginning so it doesn't hit an empty stomach. I still take it too soon but I'll try taking either during the middle or end of the meal hopefully.

I still will pick some up though I'm on antibiotics right now for a sinus infection so it can't hurt :)
