I have a fairly new issue (in the last 3 months) that I don't know what to do about.
I've noticed that if I don't eat something carb every three hours or so my BS goes up. I can feel it go up, I get this little hot flash thing and then it goes away. Not like the female type hot flashes, just a feeling of heat, and if I test (don't normally do that) my sugar is up. By up, I mean-it never goes above 200-so I am not a candidate for going to the ER-but its uncomfortable!
Also, around 3AM every morning I wake up with the same feeling, and then it goes away and I can go back to sleep for a short time, and then when I wake up, it's high.
I tested this theory inadvertantly one morning-had to clean up after a dog at 2AM (yuk!) and took my BS then-it was 116-not bad-went back to sleep, had the 3AM feeling, and when I got up at 3:30 as normal, it was 158.
Does anyone have any ideas, advice?? Help?

The heat may be from your blood glucose dropping. It's a symptom of low blood glucose, but I get it also when it is time on my schedule to eat. (It is a very uncomfortable feeling.) I think I've trained my body when to expect carbs, but that's just an unprofessional opinion. Your liver may be trying to keep your blood glucose higher by dumping glucose into your system when it detects levels dropping, that's part of its job. So you are right, if you eat a controlled amount of carbs, you may keep your liver from (over) correcting. That's what often happens to diabetics at night, and why eating a slow releasing complex carb at bedtime may help your morning fasting levels. And also why sleeping later than usual may result in higher fasting levels. Does this make sense?

I forgot-this morning I had to do my fasting BS and after 12 hours of no food-my BS was 178, and I felt awful. I go to the doctor next Friday-I will talk about this. Does this mean insulin, do you think?
