Does anyone else have nagging dry coughs? I've never had problems like this before the diabetes. I drink plenty of water and when the coughs come on, I grab a vitamin C drop which helps quiet it down. These dry coughs hit me sporadically and at the most inconvenient times. I would go a spell before it happens but now it's happening more often. Does anyone have any suggestions on how I can remedy this problem for good?!!!

Finally someone that has the same problem. I've been coughing for almost a year. Went for allergy test but found nothing. Then the doct:-) or thought it was my high blood pressure pills. Changed them 3 months ago and still coughing. I talk a lot with my job and get gets a lot worst. Very embarrassing. I just decided to check out my metformin and coughing in the interne't. I am going to see my doctor and try something else. Thanks and good luck

Hi there. I'm a medical professional. I would like to start by saying that as much as tea has an antioxidant property it won't stop your cough. Have you had a kidney funcion test as a cough is a sign your body is not getting enough oxygen. This cough occurs more when talking and at night or when walking? As a diabetic your kidneys will begin to degrade as will your heart…hence i see you're on Metformin

Thank you for sharing Msann. I most definitely will be discussing a change of medication with my physician as soon as possible.

My dear, do you use lisinopril(spelling)?
Dry cough almost 24/7 before the doctor said 'of course it will cause it'. If not check with doc about any other meds. Good luck.

Yes I am on Lisinopril and Bunny and Aunt Nanners mentioned the same thing too. Three people calling out the same medication is enough for me to tell the doctor to switch it out for a blood pressure medication that doesn't have dry coughing effects. Thanks for your input my friend.

Oh wow I thought this was maybe just a symptom of my last cold that was refusing to go away or a side effect of my blood pressure medicine but maybe it's not I'm still going to check with my doctor to be safe since a cough is a possible side effect of one of my meds.

I try to keep a bottle of water on hand at all times because a good sip of water seems to help but when I'm in places that having a bottle of water is awkward or not allowed I keep a few sugar free candies on hand to suck on because they moisten my mouth and throat just enough to stop the cough.

I'm thinking perhaps it may be coming from the Metformin that I'm on. I do a lot of speaking, and it seems to hit me the most during those times. It's just frustrating.

I'm on metformin too actually and it does seem to happen more when I've been talking a lot. But I'm also on Lisinopril for my blood pressure and it's got a side affect of a cough too.

Lisinopril!!! So that is the real culprit here. I'm on 20 mg. of it and at my next appointment, I'll be discussing other options. Thanks for the information Bunny.

I had to change from lisinopril to losartan potassium. I still cough occasionally but nothing like I did on the lisinopril.

Hot tea works for me and a glass of water since tea is a diuretic. Add some lemon juice to both the tea and the water.

Thank you, Hops, for sharing what helps you. I wish I could get some of Harlen's imported tea, but I will find a good, healthy tea and be sure to add the lemon juice.

Thank you Angel for sharing. So it looks like the Metformin and the Lisinopril are doubly causing the dry coughing. I will be talking to my doctor soon about changing these.
