I was wondering if anybody would like to share why they picked their community name.
I picked mine because my wife are big fans of "The Honeymooners"
In one episode Ralf said to Alice "Hello Bunny This is Old Buttercup"
Do any of you have a nice story about the name you picked?
As always May God Bless You

My "D.C." community name is my middle name, plain and simple.
To me the "message" is more important than the messenger, or the method!
That is why I never used a personal photograph as my icon and limited posting my personal information somewhat, although with the technology available today you can find out just about anything on anyone, if you really wanted too.

Mine is a combination of my maiden name and the fact that I'm a proud momma of 4. Plus I like to say and think that I'm forever young.

Every two years I have to update patient information at my dentist’s office. They are a fun and friendly bunch, so on their form there is a line that says “enter nickname here”. On that line I entered “Nickname” as requested (as a joke). She took my form and started transcribing it into the computer, and when she saw that, she got as far as Nick, and looked up and said “funny guy, aren’t you” and never finished it. I’ve had it for 12 years.

red flower lady
red flower lady 2012-04-14 00:15:11 -0500 Report

Well mine isn't interesting. Red is my favorite color and since I'm a floral designer, several clients would say "hey flower lady how's it going" and it just stuck among other clients who would over hear it. Also, the kids in the neighborhood would come to see my gardens and comment on my red flowers in particular, so I just added it all together:)

Ours is my daughters name and mine combined. We thought it would be best to share on the site together since she was only 8 when she was diagnosed. She is 11 now and has found reading articles helps her understand how others are feeling too. She loves the thought that she can message granniesophie any time she feels blue.

It is so interesting to read everybody's response. Mine is just plain short form of my first name Devayani :)
Even in my native India it is a long and difficult name to pronounce so I have always had various nicknames Dev is one of them. Others are ani, nani (meaning grandma. I used to act too old for my age when I was a kid. lol), Devi etc. and recently a turkish friend named me Yani :)
But I stick with Dev online most of the times. It is pronounced as Dév.

Hello everyone. I am new to this site and this is my first post. My ex-wife's father claimed that he had a Irish culture back ground. I am Mexican so I came up with Mex the first three letters of Mexiscan and ish the last three letters of Irish. I thought of this to honor my children because they are of a mixed marriage and are multicultural.

This reminds me of the lines in A League of Their Own. "This is our daughter Dottie, & this is our other daughter. Dottie's sister."

How did your son's team do in the playoffs? Have they been able to play? I heard you had more snow down your way.

I have 8 siblings and growing up I was called everyone else, before myself. It was pretty funny because I swear that those 8 names came out before mine did and it seem to take forever, hahahahaha!!! although both of my parents are gone now, this still happens, only through my older siblings. And sometimes I even get called my nieces names before my own. After all these years, you think they'd know who I am. Hahahahahaha! It's still very funny whenever I think about it

Dev
Dev 2011-02-13 21:13:56 -0600 Report

haha. My grandma does that. she has 6 daughters and 2 sons. When calling any of the girls she would go through all other names. And when all of us cousins visited her in the summer she did the same starting with her daughter's names and then all the cousins till she landed on the right one or till the person responded without waiting for the right name. Now my mother does that with us. I thought it was a family specific thing but seems like other families on other continents do it too :)

One of my Mom's stories was about how the 1st daughter in all her relatives familes on her Mom's side of her family was named after her Grandmom Esther(Mom's Grandmom). But my Grandmom didn't want another Esther in the family as there were so many already. She had 9 brothers & sisters. My Grandmom decided if she was going to name her daughter after someone it would be herself. So, she named my Mom Helen. And whenever my Mom & her family went to visit her Grandmom Esther all she could do was sit in a chair in the parlor cause if anything went wrong she got blamed for it, cause she wasn't named Esther. :)
