Help! I've been gaining weght every so often and I need to lose weight instead. My doctor says that it can be because ofthe medicine I take as well as
not being able to excerise properly because of pain. Is anyone else got my problem? What helps?

Hi Jeaner, I have to lose weight as well and the insulin my doc prescribes me it is very difficult to lose weight, but I'm doing it slowly. I have lost 10lbs but it has taken me 6 months. I started out with low impact exercising. Just walking 10 minutes daily, then I increased the walking until I was able to do 30 min everyday. It takes time and patience. I use have pain in my lower back and walking helped me, because the pain I had is gone.

what kind of pain are you having? is it leg/foot pain? if so, there's different exercises that you could do sitting. your doctor should be able to help you ideas. keeping your carb intake is very important. good luck!!!

alright I got you it has happened to me before, but it is not a big deal it can be c solved. all you need to do is to reduce the quantity of your food and please don't eat before you go to bed . if you keep recurring this your weight will come down

This comment above makes sense in a non-diabetic world, but with diabetes this advice may not be what you want to do. Reduction of food is a good start, but you have to be careful that you are keeping a steady level for your glucose to avoid spikes, or lows. Sometimes eating before bed is required to avoid having a low at night, so you need to ask your doctor about those things.

What type of meds are you on? Often they are very effective in getting the glucose stored in your cells and if you are not exercising, that will turn into unwanted weight.

If you have pain in exercise, there could be low impact things you can do even from sitting in a chair. Ask your doctor what you can do. Even just lifting little weights while watching TV is a start and can lead to more exercise. Perhaps there is a way you can get some pain relief for you so you can exercise more. Even water exercise is nice for those who have pain. It's low impact, fun and less weight bearing thus easier for many people to do.

Hello everyone. Diabetics must eat a protein and a carbo before going to bed or the liver will have a fiesta during the night. This is why a lot of us have high readings when we rise in the morning because we have gone way too long without any substance to help us through the night. I know this because of a course I am taking at The Ohio State University for diabetics. It has helped me to understand a lot of things that should be given to diabetics from the very beginning one is told they have diabetes.
