I was diagnosed pre diabetes 2 years ago and so a dietician and a certified diabetes educator soon after that. Went to classes for a few weeks, but nothing since. How often should we see an instructor or go to classes? Thanks

Greetings, I think how often we need to see CDEs and/or dieticians varies widely by individual. If one has good control of their numbers, and are keeping all their doctor appts., you may not need an appt every year or two. On the other hand, if your numbers are slipping, or your weight is changing, or your treatment plan is different, or you want to dramatically change your exercise routine, or your lifestyle is changing, you may want to book some time and talk it out. Otherwise, it is always a good way to keep up with what's new in diabetes, but it's not the only way. Good luck!

I was diagnosed in November 2010 and since then, I've seen my regular doctor once and have to go back in a couple of months for a checkup. I also see a diabetic nurse and a dietitian/nutritionist. I first saw the diabetic nurse then 3-4 weeks later I saw the other and 3-4 weeks after that I went to see the Diabetic nurse and I go to see the dietitian next week. I still haven't gone to the classes yet, but it won't be until this summer. A c-worker has diabetes and he's been to those classes and he seems to go once a year for a refresher type class and to learn if there's anything new.

This is a good question and just like you I went to classes and saw dieticiian but I was told I had one year to check back for any questions, etc with them at the hospital. Nothing was said about refresher course, which personally, I know I would get more out of, since I have been living with all the daily situations for 1 year. At the time I took courses, was too overwhelmed that I had just gotten diagnosed and I don't think I took it all in the way I should have. In other words, I would sure like a do over…but not going to happen. Good Luck to you..

I agree with you I know I'd get more out of classes now because now I would know what they're talking about. Thanks for the reply. I appreciate,
