Hello,
I go monthly. If my BS's are above 300 more than 2 times with a wk.s period of time I go in immiately. Also if it is below 60 more that twice in a wk.s period of time. I think it varies from person to person.

your friend, Leigh

Hi Everybody,

I also see my doctor about every 3 months, so 4x/year. If you see a diabetes educator, you might want to go in more often.

Also -- and this is really important -- there are 5 key tests you need to have done regularly in order to monitor your health:

• the A1c blood test - every three months

• blood pressure - every six months at least

• microalbumin (urine test), lipids (blood test), and eye exam—all annually

You need to make sure you get the lab slips to have these tests done on a regular basis -- the only way to know how you are doing with your health overall.

Best,
AmyT

Amy,

Great tips as always. I get all my tests, plus I am testing at home also to see how close all are? You can get A1c Tests Kits, also other s at your drug stores now.

Amy you are so right. To keep up the good health you have to keep on top of things with your medical team. I know after 5 years I got tired of it all and slacked off. Ended up in the hospital for a month, rehab for three. Nothing I have ever faced was as bad as rehab. Got out Jul 21, am now a near perfect patient. And, I've learned my lesson never again will I miss any appt. tests, daily meds, etc..

I see my doctor every 2-3 months for blood work and to make sure I'm staying on track. Last blood test was 7.1, which was a little high, but better than the previous one of 11.

If you are newly diagnosed; your doctor will probably schedule more frequently like my husband is, to make sure his meds are helping him, and that he is getting results. If there needs to be any changes, whatever, check your vitals and eyes, too. Make sure you tell him you feel that is not right; vision, pain, etc and keep seeing him as frequently as he requests. It is your lifeline and it is very important.

My doctor has a schedule based on A1C results
7.0 or above every 6 weeks
6.5-7.0 every 3 months
less than 6.5 every 6 months.

I'm still on every 3 months with my last A1C of 6.8. I'm switching doctors in November though so that could change. We'll see!!

We have been more actively visiting with the addition of the pump-It has been weekly to the educator, and monthly for the endo. Normally it is every 3 for the endo. And as needed with a yearly check at the regular dr.

I go have lab work and then see my dr. every 3 months. This last time he said he would give me a break from the lab work for 6 months! I still have to see him in three months though.
