I moved to Missouri july of 2008 and since then I 've lost 50 pounds as of January 2009. But since then I've gained back 10 pounds. I think it's the Actos that my doctor just put me on in december 2008. I am very depressed about it cuz I am considered obese and I need to lose alot of weight. My self-esteem is very low and I hate that I am overweight! It is very hard for me to exercise cuz I have a hard time walking cuz of arthritis in my knees and I broke my left knee in January of 2008 and since then I have alot of pain especially when I walk!

Where did you moved from?? If you moved from the south to a northeren state it would cause you to eat more because of the cold. I believe that diabetes meds cause you to gain weight went I moved from NY to NC I weighed 184 and came down to 135lbs. but since I have had diabetes my weight is 224lbs. I was 250lbs. before my grand-daughter came to live with us. I have tried everything to lose the weight but it is a very slow progess. Tried rubing a rub (bengay) or something to that on your knees and try and walk moreif only alittle bit each day.It might help and movement is the best way I think to lose the weight. let me know how you make out. I have now successfully lost 55 lbs since August/September. I was diagnosed in September and had lost 40 lbs by then and didn't even really know it. Since being out of the hospital I have lost another 15 on my own. Maybe there is something to this healthy eating and excersising thinggy…LOL

Blessed Be

I've lost 40 pounds since June of 2007 when I retired. I plan to lose 30 more. My doc keeps telling me to lose it slowly. I'm wearing pants size 14 now. I use to wear pants size 20-22. I'm so happy. I'm off meds because of the weight loss and exercise. (metformin) My motto is "Just do it." I'm sure you're heard that before. LOL How did I do it? Exercise, exercise, exercise. I am careful This is my weekly schedule now. Tai Chi, Qi Gong 4 times a week. 1 Belly Dancing Class and 1 Salsa class. My A1c is 5.6. I'd like to thank Toma Grubb for encouraging me to stop taking metformin because my A1c was so low. I checked with my Doc who approved the move. Since I stopped taking metformin my A1c has come in low due to the exercise/weight loss/diet. I try to follow Toma's diet suggestions. NO white food. etc. Check out his web site. I'm grateful to be a part of this community. Blessings to you all. Connie4849

You go Connie! That is great and an inspiration to me. I am working so hard to get my levels low with just diet and exercise. I have a lot more weight to loose, but you are right. Exercise makes a LOT of differnce. I kind of let up for a few days and my numbers went up and I felt crummy. Back on again, and feeling better and numbers are going down again instead of up. I am so glad there are people like you and Toma that show us that we can do it too.

Ok so I'm one of those picky people that HATE to sweat. I tried Yoga for awhile, but most of those positions are geared toward people that are already "thin" so I gave up. But alas I have found the fun excersice tape…I have found Tae Bo. I have fun doing it, and my hubby has been doing it with me…he's worried that I'll be able to kick his butt if he doesnt keep up…LOL.

I have lost 13 lbs since Sept 1st. My goal is another 15 by 1/1/09. I know how tough this is going to be with all the holidays, but hopefully checking in on this discussion will help keep me motivated-Good luck to everyone and healthy eating-let's shoot for a huge number.

In the past two weeks, I have lost 8.5 pounds. I am stoaked! It will be a big number by the end of the year.

GabbyPA 2008-10-26 14:45:51 -0500 Report

Ok, two more weeks have gone by. 3.5 more pounds have gone bye-bye. LOL This is a better rate, but I did like last post numbers more. As long as it keeps going down, I'm all fine with that.

vgarrison 2008-10-12 03:34:47 -0500 Report

Since September 1st of this year I have lost a total of 35 lbs (of course being diagnosed on the 13th I'm sure had nothing to do with it..hehe). Gabby I too had a hard time being weighed on a doctors scale for awhile. The other day my daughter wouldn't get on the scale for the nurse to see her weight and the nurse wanted me to weigh myself then hold her and we would subtract the difference. Didn't work…sigh…

Since being diagnosed I have more energy again…my house has never been cleaner (I am a domestic engineer) and I have been playing with my daughter quite a bit more…"Momma play outside…pllleeeaaasseee" now all I have to say is yes…lets go. Before it was later honey mommy's tired…

NamVet you always come up with some really great ideas!!!!

Any bets on how well we will do???

From May of 07 to May of 08 I had lost 80 lbs. I gained back 20 lbs on Actos so I switched to Januvia and some other meds.I have lost back 8lbs,still have 12 of the original lbs to lose. I am trying. I think this would be fun to do.

Have some fun here.

Okay, I have been hesitant to share this because it is embarrassing, but I could not be weighed on a doctor scale for several years. The other day, I was able to weigh myself for the first time in a long time. To do that, I can only say that I have lost so far nearly 50 pounds.

Saying that. I am starting from scratch this past week, and I will share my loss as I go. Now that I can actually attach a number to it, I find it amazing. I am hoping by the end of the year I can add another 20 or so to the toal, we will see.

The hardest part for me to remember about losing weight is it shouldn't happen quickly. I want it to, but it isn't healthy. It took a long time for me to gain it, it's going to take a long time for me to lose it. I have lost around 35 lbs. so far and have hit a wall for whatever reason. I started cutting calories way to much, trying to push through the wall. I realized today my body needs a rest. I'm not feeling well, I've cut out too many calories. I can't rush it. If I don't make permanent changes that help me lose weight slowly, I'll just feel ill or gain it back and then some, and having diabetes makes that an option that just cannot happen again.

jc2436 2008-11-01 21:43:03 -0500 Report

The actual number is not that important. Keeping yourself in a good state of health should be more important. I think most health professionals will tell you that.

2008-10-05 15:03:57 -0500 Report

ok so we will all tell what we've lost by December 31, 2008? Just what we lost this year? That could be an enormous number considering how many people are on here and trying to lose weight. I'll be curious to see this play out. :)

GabbyPA 2008-10-01 05:30:42 -0500 Report

This could be fun! Do you want to give it a time frame or a time line? Or just for now?

mollydear 2009-03-02 04:37:07 -0600 Report

I'm going back on portion the food I bring in to my home. AGAIN.. Got lazy and stopped.
Been on the right track for the last 4 yrs they taught I would be inslin dependent at 35 well, turned 38 on Friday and was giving the news, on Wednesday (26) that if by next month I dont have it back under control. I go back on insluin.

I wanted to cry. I only had, had the gestional diabetes with my children(toddlers) the were all huge 10 lbs 10oz, got the diabetes at the end. The second one got the diabetes at 15 weeks started insluin and induced a week early 11 lbs 10 oz. My last one I call my premie and he was delivered by c-section 2 weeks early started the insluin at 4 weeks and he was 9 lbs 6oz. The Doctor told me that if I have any more children I would not come off the insluin. So I ended there and have been off of meds 4 yrs. Last year I started on Metformin 500mg twice a day..

Would it be better for me to go on Insluin? This is all new to me and I should not of put it off to learn more about it.

any information would be help full just email or all me to your friends please.

I have 3 children that need me and I have to be here. They are 10, 8, and 6
