I am a little confused what you are trying to ask. Are you asking if you should go in fasting before the lab draws blood from you? or are you asking about fasting before you take your blood sugar count? As far as fasting before drawing your blood at a doctors appointment, my doctor usually will tell me to come in fasting or not, it depends what kind of test they will be processing for you that day. The nurse will tell me to fast for 4 hours before my appointment.

I've been told by my doctor that for a Cholesterol test - you should be fasting. However an A1c can be done without fasting.

I always test first thing in the morning, 2hrs after breakfast, right before my exercise and before bedtime. This is what my Dr told me…Good Luck to you.

I was told, by my doctor and my diabetic nurse, that I should check my BS first thing in the morning (fasting) and 2hrs after one of my meals or at bedtime. Or right before a meal and then 2hrs after that meal. Hope this helps!!!

Hi, Welcome to the DC Community.

I'm not quite sure what your question pertains to.

If you mean should we fast before we draw blood (like before meals) then I would say no. Normally after you have finished your meal, you don't continue to eat until your next meal.
