A local T.V. station in our state had a story about temperature and gaining weight. They were saying that in colder temperatures people seem to eat more carboyhydrates to keep their body temperature warmer. And in the summer months were it gets very warm, people seen to eat fewer.

I was wondering if there are more Diabetics in states were there are colder temperatures? Especially Type 2 diabetics as we all seem to have extra wieght.

I don't know for sure, but it does make you think.

I have a kind of rare problem. I am alergic to the sun and heat and also the cold. In the summer I tend to eat more salads and I try walking and tending my garden around dusk. In the winter I do as most and stay in where it is warm. I crave more carbs too as I am almost always cold. Thanks to all of you I am trying very hard to eat less carbs now though. What a great reminder this disscuion is. Thank You re1ndeer.

Your welcome. Thank you for replying. It must be very hard for you to really enjoy the outside. It seems all of us just eat to many carbs, myself included, somedays I go overboard.

very cold weather makes me eat more carbs and stay indoors most of time without going out. Being indoors, I get bored at times. To prevent becoming a couch potato and overeat on snow days, when I'm home or unable to go to work, I try to keep active by doing chores, laundry and use WII sports and fitness games to keep me moving around. I don't drive a car, so most of my exercise is walking to and from supermarket and use public transportation if i need to go to much farther than my area.

Thank you for your response. Doing as much exercise in the colder months helps burn those extra carbs we eat.

I really believe this to be true. I live in Texas and in the summer food is just not something I crave…lean to something cool and light like salads. When winter comes we are all like hiberanating bears, like to eat "comfort food" before we go to sleep and basically stay snug in front of the fireplace or t.v.

Thanks for your response. When it is warm or hot out, I very seldom eat, but drink lots of liquids. Winter it's a lot of warm soups and chili.

You know this makes so much sense…I lived in New Orleans when I was first diagnosed…I craved more salads and fruits and veggies while I lived there. I now live outside of Seattle and I crave carbs all the time. I never really thought of this before, but it completely makes sense. Carbs keep you warmer…and here I just thought my blood was finally starting to thinken up again (I grew up in South Dakota)…

Blessed Be

I've been eating more this winter but i always ate more in the winter, I figured it was out of boredom.

I feel hungerier when it's cold. When it's warm I have a hard time remembering to eat

Thank you for your response. So, in a way, this could be true. I know for me I'm always hungrier in the Winter months, just so, I can stay warm.

Hmmm, maybe I'm the odd duck, but I'm freezing after meals and start to overheat before eating if my glucose levels are dropping. I dislike having to eat before my lunch time walks for that reason (when its cold outside), but I get really stupid on my walks if I don't eat first.

Maybe, it depends on what your eating. That makes you cold. How do you get stupid on your walks if you don't eat first?
