Here I have been walking for both of my 12 minute breaks at work…all the while thinking I am improving my condition and getting more excerise. Turns out Im not doing that great. When I was laid off in mar of 09 until feb of 2010 for most of that I didnt have ins and took medicine here and there. Could get help made too much on unemployment and so on. So 2011…I have been doing good with my sugars and tryting to get healthy. Now I have a couple spots of diabetic reinophthy and my legs have been in massive amounts of pain when I walk around the plant. So on tuesday I got tested for P A D…no calll back yet to tell me for sure but how discouraging!! I gained like over 10 pounds because of Actos and all that walking made me gain a pound…now all this. How does one stay positive when its one thing after another???? might need eye surgery…the P A D which Im assuming there is some of…they want me to look into gastric surgery…man oh man…

I'm glad to read that it all turned out good for you. Stressing out doesn't help with diabetes, it seems to make things a little worse. Keep up the good work and things will get better as each day goes by. God bless you!!!

Yes I didnt know that stress makes your blood sugars high…and man in 09-10 I had MASSIVE amounts of stress…but try to take deep breaths and give more to God…and asking for his help.

well I agreed to do that ABI test and it came back good I have very good circlulation in my legs…so the doc decided I have shin splints and to keep walking and just excerise and do get a good pair of shoes. So with my income tax money (I live with my parents and take care of them) so my dad had a rowing machine we dont use to often so we traded that for a treadmill…so far 3 of the 4 people have used it.

well good news…no P A D so am so thankful for that. I was seriously stressin about that. I stopped tsaking Actos awhile ago…was only on it a few weeks. I had eye tearing…bowel trouble…weight gain…and my hands and feet swelled and I was taking naps everyday after work and then could sleep till like 2am and have to be to work by 7am…so I said ohhhhh no more of this!! They have not yet told me what the extremem pain in my legs is when i walk but suggested "new good shoes" so thats the next step.

That should be helping ease your mind some. Less things to worry about now, and you can focus better on what you need to.

yes it does but still doesnt explain the excrushating pain in my leg when i walk around the plant…guess i will have to figure it out myself

No, keep searching for an answer. Pain is there to give you a warning that something is wrong. You want to continue to pursue that. If your doctor is unable to help, ask him to refer to someone that he thinks can. Pain should only be "ignored" if you know what is causing it and it is not a life threatening issue.

Ok, well then at least you are able to know what is going on. That's great and the treadmill sounds like a good trade.

I have to admit I was a little disappointed he didn't check me out better. He just sent me a message saying it was more then likely shin splints. So a good pair of shoes…and diabetic socks…and stretching has all helped me out. Have actually used the treadmill every day so far…so has my daughter and my Dad now just need to get my Mom on it!!!

That change will help a lot. I have a dog that won't let me skip a night of walking. She is my exercise buddy. LOL

Ah, but your title says it all.

Actos will often cause weight gain and other issues, so you may want to talk to your doctor about other alternatives. Walking will help you loose inches, but sometimes it will cause you to gain weight. At least you know it is muscle weight. I had that happen to me. I lost a pant size and was so thrilled, but when I got to the doctor, I had only lost a pound! Well, I let my pants do the talking, not the scale.

The other thing to consider is how badly might you be doing if you had not started your walks. Perhaps you have put off some conditions that would have overrun you sooner than later. There is always a good light that can be shed on things. Sometimes you just have to look really hard to find it.
