What is the cheapest meter to get where the strips don't cost a lot. My insurance does not cover the strips. Thanks for any info.

Here in Cheyenne, WY we have a pharmacy that is run by the city. They will give you the meter, if you ask for it, and the strips are only $10 for a box of 50. They also give the lancets and they have alcohol swabs for free too. You might see if your community has something like this. They have shelves that they put things on that are free. I picked up my Freestyle Lite and a years supply of strips and lancets for nothing-except the energy needed to carry them back to the car! This pharmacy started out as a place to turn in and process PAPs. I get my meds thru a PAP and they don't cost me anything. I don't have insurance, so that is a real help. Check with your hospital, they may have something similar.

I purchase my strips from Ebay. I have been doing that for about 3 years now and have never had a problem.

If you qualify for a free new meter from various places they send you some free strips. You can donate the older machines. Also, some insurances will pay for part of the strips from a different provider like Liberty Medical instead of the pharmacy.
