I was recently diagnosed with type 2 diabetes. I can live with that and it does run in my family so it was likely to happen. I am currently having a little difficulty in understanding whats happening. I do believe I need a new dr. which I have a appt for in March but maybe someone can give some feed back as to my concern. I am not sure if they are valid or not since I am so new at this. I was on insulin 5x a day to start. Then 2x's a day. My dr said we are weening you off insulin so you can go on the pill form. I also had trouble keeping my levels high enought they were in the 60's, I am on 4 pills a day two in am and 2 @ dinner and 1 actoes (extremely expensive-do I really need this?) I am constintly in the 80's now and continually drinking juice or soda or fruit to keep my levels up. My dr. wants me between 100-140 and I do all I can to try to get to 100. Is this normal? I thought I was going to fight to get my levels down not up. Anyone have any insight on this????

My dr is happy with my numbers in 80's…I'm kinda confused why your dr would want you higher?? I might check with another dr for sure. Diabetics should not have to play games with confusing information especially from drs.

Being in the 80's is fine, that's where normal blood sugar is most of the time. It sounds like your doctor might not be very current with his diabetes education so you should definitely get a second opinion sooner rather than later. See if you can switch your appointment so it is sooner, if you call every day you should be able to get a cancellation spot in a few days if you really want to.

It does sound like your meds are working a little too well. Adjusting them should be a goal that you and your doctor work on together so that you don't swing to another extreme.

It would be wonderful to cut down on my meds but my Dr. does not talk with mea he just says take it or you will die. That is why I needed some input. I am seeking a different Dr. He has not sat with me to discuss goals or explanations, he just tells me what to do without me understanding anything. Thank you for your insight you really helped.

Yep, time to sit down and have a real discussion with him or find a new one. That is now how a doctor is supposed to treat a patient. They are part of the team. I hope you get that worked out. It will make a world of difference.

Thank you for your response because now I know that my Dr is not working in my best interest. I have asked him the "why?" but his only response to me is take what I tell you or you will die! Well we are getting a new Dr. He has not discussed nor want to discuss anything. As for goals that has not been discussed either. Not quit sure what to do until responses came in. Thank You All.
