I have tryed a new sweetener called Sun Crystals, it is a mixture of stevia and pure unprocessed cane sugar, doesn't seem to affect my #'s and it taste great in iced tea…for those of you who haven't heard of it before it contains less bad stuff, I get mine at Walmart…be careful! it is very very sweet..

Also I am curius about whether anyone uses sugar alcohol sweetened products and whether they affect your readings or not? I recently purchased a product through called Extend Bars, they claim to keep your bg up for up to 9 hrs but they make me very sleepy when eaten…does anyone else have this reaction to sugar alcohols or is it just me???

I was told to stay away from suger alcohol. But I was wondering if stevia/truvia was safe to use. Maybe I'll try the sun crystals

generally speaking, Rambling, Stevia is well tolerated. Of course one has to be careful that one is not allergic to a substance. Also the stevia based sweeteners Truvia and Purvia are mixed with other sweeteners (I forget which right now) a little bit, so iif one has a sentsitivity to that particlular sweetening agent you could have a reaction as well.

I love Sun Crystals and use them more that the Truvia or Purvia brands. Those have artificial ingredients, where the Sun Crystals are 100% natural. It is not as sweet as straight Stevia either, so I do like them.

I don't like the sugar alcohols. I stay away, but I have to say they have never made me sleepy, just bloated.

Thanks for the heads up, Gabby. Guess i'll try the Sun Crystals and see for myself.
I don't like sugar alcohol either. It really raises my #'s

There are so many alternatives out there now it's great. I stay away from anything that has artificial ingredients in it if I can. I still use Stivia in the Raw which is a stevia blend, but it contains the equivalent of a corn starch to keep it "fluffy" so I use it sparingly.

I haven't used sun crystals, but have seen it in the grocery. I now try to stay away from sweeteners of all types and compositions.

I used to try to use the sugar alcohols, but they had a laxative effect on me (read "hershey squirts" LoL!) I have read the reports about using artificial sweetemers raising one's store of fat. So I avoid anythng like that

I also avoid stevia too because even though the effects of stevia was not studied in that study, I suspect that the same thing will happen with stevia too.

I've not noted the sleepy response to sugar alcohols.
