I agree that keeping a journal is a good idea and I can point you to a tool (free) that you may like. The site is www.livestrong.com and under tools is "my plate D" (the D is for diabetic). It takes a little start up work but will help you keep records, recipes, nutritional information, etc.

I won't say that dieting and/or losing weight is easy. I am pleased to say that I went from 199 in January down to a current 174-176 which isn't bad for a guy who is 5'11". I have made simple swaps in my lifestyle by adding more exercise, never skipping breakfast even though I don't really like it, drinking more water and subsitituting instead of eliminating things. Oh, and test - test - test!!! I'm sorry they are not words of infinite wisdom but I can only share what I think has worked for me. Portion control is one key to weight control. The other thing is the importance of online and offline support and encouragement. Please feel free to let me know if there is anything that I can say or do to help you. We are all in this together and we are here for you.

One more thing… smiling helps!!! :)

I have type 2 diabetes and I know that losing weight is hard for all. The best suggestion I could give you would be to get a diabetic cookbook, journal everything you eat daily, drink lots of water and get outside and walk. It worked for me and I do this everyday. Good Luck to you!!
