I'm on a low salt diet. But, lately I've been craving salt. Like potato chips.
Does any one out there know what i can do to stop the cravings. Especially when watching football games, everyone is snacking, and I want to have some too. Please give me any remidies you use.

I've been on a very successful diet that I am sticking with..I've lost 22 lbs. since Dec.6th..however the salt cravings can be so strong at times..I go to the grocery store and always pass the snack isle..but its the potato chips I crave..I know I can't have them but its hard at times..I do use alot of fresh herbs and spices..salt free..I hope my cravings lessen as time goes on..

I was a kidney dialysis patient who has has a kidney transplant and i don't ever crave salt except on plain pasta. You get used to not having it and you start using fresh herbs and spices and you won't even miss it.

I agree with kdroberts, that sometimes your body craves what it needs. Then again, it may think it needs it because it's used to having it and once it adjusts, it will level out. Sorry, not sure what to tell you on how to stop those cravings. Eat an apple and peanut butter maybe?

The situations you are talking about seem to be part habit. I know when I am watching the game, chips and popcorn are always things to munch. So it may be a trigger. Garlic can offer some salt like bite to foods and celery has natural sodium in it that might be satisfying.

Sometimes, what I really want is the crunch, not the salt and eating cucumber slices or carrots can help out.

Your body needs salt to work properly and sometimes if you are not getting enough your body will crave it. Also, if it's a fairly new low salt diet your body may be adjusting and the cravings will lessen and go away if you can ride it out.
