Ok here is another newbie question I have. I have heard that when a diabetic person gets sick their numbers can go up.

Well I woke up this am with a sore throat and my nose is running. Does anyone know any remedies that I can do at home to help get me over this? I can't see the doc until Tuesday to get meds changed.

I am drinking tea with lemon, I normally add honey, but felt this was a bad move.

I am there with Butterfly_8. Homemade chicken soup. There is evidence that something in the mix helps your body combat the bad guys. Make it yourself, and you can keep all the nasties out of it like the noodles and msg. Fresh chicken breast, good veggies, lots of water to cook it in. We will have to post a recipe for it. I even talked to my doctor about it, and he said eat it, and a lot of it. make it by the gallons if you are not feeling well, and it will help.

Of course there are more "modern" ways too. I do use Alka-Seltzer Plus, usually at night. But I have not used it since I have been diagnosed, so I don't know what it does to your levels.

Honey does have healing properties, but it also does cause spikes in many diabetics. As long as you don't over do it, try it once, see if it spikes you. If it does, try Agave Nectar. It is also natural and no spikes for most people. I don't know that it has any Honey properties in healing, but it does taste good.

Keep up with your routine as much as you can. We can get all out of wack because we are not keeping on top of things, so get help with that. Don't forget to test and don't forget your meds if you are taking any.

Wash those hands often with soap and water. I am not really a germ-o-phobe, but since I am sticking needles in my fingers all the time now, I wash my hands a lot more. I am sure it helps keep the buggies away.

And if you are sick, don't share. Stay away from work, community know. It is hard, but once it gets into a community, it gets really comfrotable and goes to visit everyone.

Here's to a healthy winter!

I am by no means a doctor nor do I recommend this for anyone else but when I start getting sick I take alka-selca plus{spelling}.I also think the tylenol products wouldn't hurt.

I had the same reaction recently. I don't know what ot was I coughed ,runny nose itchy eyes and I had a fever briefly and overnight. BS was up. I think it was an allergy or sinus. What I did was drive it crazy. I gargled, chewed Vitamin C like candy, ate Onions and garlic on everything I could . I even ate homemade chicken soup. It was gone in a couple of days.
